Description
Previous version of Trenner & Friedl Arts (2nd version), which has been replaced recently with version 3. These sold for 6K and a good price can be had on these, just as I got. These speakers were originally damaged in shipping. If a speaker had to get damaged, this was about as good as we could do. One tweeter grill got poked and the indented grill cover can be seen in 2 photos below. In most lighting, it's very hard to see, and this was the extent of the damage via that original shipment. The next issue, is that I had assumed the finish would stand up to humidity changes, and as it turned out, living in New York's winter's can be tough, due to the drying heat. I hadn't noticed an issue until I started taking these photos, there's one side of one speaker that has the beginnings of faint crack lines. You can feel a very slight, subtle raising, where the lines are. Pictured with flash and without. There are instructions on the internet on how to refinish the finish visually, which moves the finish in the effected area around for better coverage, but, I don't have the talent or the patience for that project. However, I bought a high quality wax, that I have applied 3 coats with, and I will apply 1 or 2 more liberally applied coats of wax, before shipping these out. I will include the small canister of the high quality English made wax. The speakers may end up having a little bit more sheen from the extra layer/s of wax. The good thing is, that the speakers are quite clean in appearance, and, otherwise, come off fairly pristine, and they play beautifully. Listening to them as I write this ad. These have been my favorite speakers I've owned for use with solid state amplification. The Arts excel at being natural sounding, and fortunately so with solid state amplification. I do not recommend using tubes with these, as these speakers generally haven't sounded their best paired with tubes. They did sound quite good with a Line Magnetic 805, but, that was the one tube amp that was a good match. (But, I wouldn't chance it, as they tend to work consistently well with solid state amps.) The Trenner & Friedl Arts are refined sounding speakers that have smooth, full mids and grain free highs with plenty of bass foundation, especially for their size. These speakers are linear, with no excess resonant peaks throughout the frequency bandwidth. (Of course every room has its effect on the sound of the speakers and results will vary from place to place depending on room dimensions, construction materials used in the room, placement of the speakers, as well as where you sit to listen) A 24 wood speaker stand is the way to go with these, not metal. These will be priced accordingly for their 5 visual issues. There are 2 or 3 very small, minor dings. One is pictured, that one is by far the most prevalent. Make sure to zoom in on all pics, especially the ones with the faults. I will be happy to send more pictures, if that helps. The last 6 pictures are there specifically to show the speaker's specific faults, and you can see 2 example pics that show these early crack lines. The second shot is a close up with flash of the early crack lines also shown in the prior photo, of that one side of the speaker. The next two shots are of one tweeter's grill, which was dented in transit, and lastly, there is a subtle lightening in color in one area shown in the next picture, which is on the bottom right, near that lower corner. I will include the wax, and recommend applying some once or twice a year. These speakers will be packed in their original boxes, and then, another box and foam will be used to insure a safer shipment. The T&F's original box, with two individual, inner boxes, still doesn't have enough foam or Cushioning to ship safely, so I will add what's needed to make them more road worthy.
