I’ve been an audiophile since I was 12 and ordered my first amp and turntable thru the mail, after building my own speakers! Fast forward several decades, now I have more than I can handle. There are deals to be had, maybe you should have them, and get the same thrill I got when that first amp showed up on my porch. This is a GRACE G707 TONEARM, produced starting in the 1970s for low mass, high-compliance cartridges. These are semi-legendary for their excellent performance, and they were a go-to item for many high-end turntables. This one is TESTED, and WORKING, but has a few issues, to wit: 1) the cueing lever has to be held up, otherwise it lowers slowly to the record. 2) the plastic bracket that holds the cueing piston is cracked (very common, and replacement brackets are available here on eBay, 40 bucks for 2), and 3) scratches on the arm wand and age appropriate wear. It came to me with a Grado ZF-3 cartridge, and it’ll come to you that way. It’s a good sounding combo: the last photos show it playing Liszt on my (not included) ERA tester turntable. This is a vintage GRADO ‘LABORATORY’ TONEARM, the most sophisticated version of their famous wooden tonearm line. This was missing the rubber mounting disc when I first got it, but I tracked one down. It was rewired and had non-standard cartridge leads, but I fixed the latter with a BRAND NEW cartridge holder, purchased from Pats Audio Parts (a 40.00 value on its own). The rewire job was well done, so I left it. The supplied counterweight was too heavy, so Im including a nut, bolt, and washers to roll your own-- it works, but youve got to take care to assemble the stack of washers straight so it fits in the black aluminum nest. I soldered some gold-plated RCA sockets on the leads to play test, and it works (see last photo) . The set-up documentation is available online.
