It replaced my Audio Research SP10, which at the time was and still is considered as having one of the best phono sections available at any price! The preamp was recently completely reconditioned by Avatar Engineering to above the performance of the unit when it was brand new. The power supply ( Which is the E version, the much better unit per Nelson Pass, with 10 times the capacitance) has also been upgraded with new higher capacity audio grade capacitors bypassed with polypropelene film caps, the diodes were replaced with ultra fast soft recovery rectifiers with a Kiwame resistor and improved wiring. As to the line stage there too the electrolytic capacitors were replaced with superior Panasonic FM caps. All inferior tantalum capacitors were replaced with polypropylene film caps, and most important the original mylar capacitors were replaced with audio grade polypropylene and polystyrene units! Some of the other upgrades include the addition of Takman, PRP and Vishay Dale ultra precision S102 .05% audiophile resistors.
