Der TD 850 ist das Topmodell der NEW-LINE-Serie aus der Schweiz. Das Chassis dieses Masselaufwerks ist eine Sandwichkonstruktion aus zwei Lagen 19 mm starker MDF (mitteldichte Faserplatte, engl. medium density fiberboard) mit einer 15 mm dicken Zwischenlage aus Stahl. Um magnetische Beeinflussungen des Tonsignals auszuschlieen, wird die Stahlplatte im Bereich von Abtastradius und Tonarmbasis bei der Fertigung mit einem Laserstrahl ausgeschnitten. Alle 3 Platten sind elastisch miteinander verklebt. Dadurch ergibt sich eine hohe Dmpfung. Dieses 55 mm hohe extrem schwere Chassis ist die Basis fr das klangliche Potenzial des TD 850. Das gesamte Laufwerk steht auf drei hhenverstellbaren, polymergedmpften Spikes. Der Aluminiumteller ist 24 mm hoch, ber 4 kg schwer und auf der Unterseite gegen Vibrationen bedmpft. Die spiegelpolierte Edelstahlachse luft in zwei Sinterbuchsen und sttzt sich auf einem als Kugel ausgebildeten Punktlager ab. Dieses Thorens Silent-Run Lager ist wartungsfrei. Der Antrieb erfolgt ber einen 24-poligen Wechselstrom-Synchronmotor, wie er sich bereits im TD 2001 bewhrt hatte und auch in den kleineren Versionen TD 800 und TD 810 eingebaut ist. Die ausgelagerte Motorelektronik beinhaltet ein leistungsfhiges Netzteil und einen netzunabhngigen Frequenzgenerator fr die Versorgung und Regelung des Motors. Der von Rega bernommene Tonarm (RB 300) ist mit einer Hhenverstellung ausgestattet und bietet damit grte Flexibilitt bei der Tonabnehmerauswahl.
