Thiel CS 1.6 floorstanding speakers in excellent condition. Original drivers in great condition, no issues. The dustcover on the woofers were pushed in a bit but I was able to pull them out with duct tape, but you can still see a crease if you look hard enough. But the dustcovers are not torn or ripped at all. The veneer on the speakers is in great condition, beautiful walnut finish (real wood). These have the typical and wonderful Thiel sound, very articulate with tight but not overpowering bass. Ive owned the 1.2, 1.5 and 3.5 models, and these are (IMHO) definitely an improvement over the 1.2 and 1.5. The 3.5, due to there size and 3-way design, might have an edge for higher-volume listening, but at moderate levels I like the 1.6 the best. These are 4 ohm speakers. The design is advanced from the 1.5 it replaced, a cnc machine was used to carve out the front baffle to optimize dispersion. The grill is magnetic and fits into a depression for a seamless look. Very cool. In addition, you will notice the long vertical slot acting as a reflex port. These are really great and modern looking speakers.From Stereophile:The 6.5 woofer, designed and manufactured in-house, uses a 3 voice-coil to drive the metal cone closer to its perimeter than usual. This is said to increase the stiffness of the cone, pushing the inevitable breakup modes much higher in frequency than with a conventional cone and voice-coil. The large coil allows the neodymium magnet to be housed completely within the voice-coil former, inherently shielding the magnet. The 1 tweeter uses a metal dome and, like the woofer, features a short coil with a copper distortion-reducing ring, operating in a long gap. The tweeter dome is recessed slightly in a front plate with a short flare, which will increase its on-axis sensitivity to match the efficient woofer, at the expense of restricting the units dispersion in the top octave.The crossover is, as is usual in Thiels Coherent Source designs, a phase-optimal first-order type. This and the sloping back baffle allow the sounds from both drivers to arrive at the listeners ears at the same time. In a welcome departure from earlier Thiel speakers, the CS1.6s sturdy terminal posts are sited on the rear of its cabinet rather than the base.Ive had this pair as a secondary set to my Dahlquist DQ10 speakers. Im keeping the Dahlquist mainly due to the fact that I refurbished the DQ10s so I have a pride of restoration for them. Their sound is different from the Thiels, not necessarily better, just different. The Thiels, as mentioned before, are very articulate and tight across the spectrum. In summary, simply a great pair of speakers.Pick up in NW NJ, willing to meet at a reasonable distance.

Weight: 107 lbs each.Original retail price: Price: $3900/pair From the Stereophile Review: The three-way CS3.6 uses a 10 woofer, a 4.5 midrange, and a 1 metal-dome tweeter. A 10 passive bass radiator extends the CS3.6s LF range, replacing the sealed-box loading of its predecessor, the CS3.5. (Unlike the 3.5, no LF equalization is used.) As with all Thiel loudspeakers, the crossover is a true acoustic first-order (6dB/octave) type. A black grille covers the drivers and curved baffle. We purchased this pair from a broker in New Jersey three years ago as a backup to other Thiels that we have on hand. We are the second owner. The original owner appears to have had a cat that liked to scratch at the grilles; and one side of one wooden enclousure has easily visible claw marks. However, the drivers are all operational and original; the tweeters do not appear to be delaminating. Two nicks in one midrange could be easily sealed with speaker cement. Drivers are polyproylene surround and not subject to foam rot. Rob Gillum, the former Thiel Service Manager, has his own firm called Cohearant Sound Service and is available for factory-quality service. He can replace the grille fabric, rebuild drivers if needed, etc. This model is owned and used by a number of well-known audio designers and is even the primary reference pair for the guy who runs the largest USA Hi-Fi show. They sound spectacular with good source gear. We will transport them by car within 200 miles of Boston ($50 fuel surcharge after 100 miles). For a $100 fee, we will transport them to you within 400 miles of Boston (only within US, not Canada). Otherwise they are available for Local Pickup from Boston. Please read all details These are 6ohm speakers but read at 5ohm Pair Mint Used Scanspeak 18W/5537G01 7” Woofer - Thiel DRWF-053-001 SQ RARE. 6ohm 5 ohm, Fs 41, Qts .47, Vas .733^3 feet. Looks like a 18W4434G-00 with a poly cone. These were installed in some custom speaker cabinets and used for a very short time. They are very close to being new and have lots of life left. They are 100% functional and great 7 inch midrange midbass woofer.

This is a pair of Thiel CS 3.6 Speakers, in EXC Condition (Im 2nd owner). One of the late Jim Thiels best and most coveted models, bar none. Boxes in great condition. They are held in place with spikes, which serve to help lessen vibration interference. I wouldnt dare try to put them back in the boxes and ship them! WILL NOT SHIP. If you cant come and get them, my apologies. Wont risk these impeccably excellent condition #1555 & #1556 getting a scratch on them. Whats with the visit shop down below? I dont have a shop!
