Tapes recorded in dbx will not work in non-dbx cassette decks. This deck features dbx disc pass-through allowing you to playback dbx encoded vinyl records without needing to record to tape first. DBX does not like worn, heavily used, low quality tapes. We tuned this deck to TDK Studio Master Type I specifications. TDK tapes should work the best. Any type/brand should be fine for non-dbx recordings. Do not use Sony tapes in this deck. There is a slight dent in the front bezel as seen in the photos. Works and sounds great. Please see photos. We test our cassette decks for several hours using a combination of very old, worn tapes, new old stock tapes, pre-recorded original tapes, and custom made tapes from our own new tape stock. Only when a deck can make it through a test cycle without any major issues, and without eating a tape, do we post them for sale. Despite all this, it will still eat a tape from time to time. We DO NOT guarantee your tapes will work and do not offer any return options due to specific tape problems. Buy at your own risk.

Deck 1 right spindle not spinning upon playback or rewind. Deck 2 works fine as I listened to an entire tape and played it back before realizing deck 1 has the issue.
