This exceptionally nice looking and fantastic sounding Technics cassette deck is a great example of a well regarded and highly reviewed 2-head deck from the early 1980s. It has very precise and attractive fluorescent level meters, and can handle all popular tape types, including CrO2 and Metal as well as standard Type I ferric cassettes. This deck is very solidly built, with quality electrical components and an unusually large and heavy capstan flywheel (to minimise wow and flutter). The specification is excellent, and includes: -Dolby B noise reduction-Headphone output on front panel-Stereo L/R microphone inputs on the front panel- Line level L/R RCA (phono) inputs and outputs on the rear-5-pin DIN socket on rear for audio in/out-Reliable and solid tape transport-Tape type select for bias and EQ setting, covering all popular tape formulations-Accurate and precise stereo level meters It has been professionally serviced this week, including checking and cleaning the drive belts and pulleys, replacing where required, cleaning the switches and testing and cleaning the internal electrical contacts. The case is also in great shape, there are a couple of small marks on the top surface, as we often find with stackable Hi-Fi equipment, but these are minor and unlikely to even be visible once installed. This Technics RS-M215 is a stereo cassette deck with Dolby B noise reduction, it was first sold by Technics in 1981.The main features of the Technics RS-M215 are: 2 heads, mechanical 3 digit tape counter, manual tape type selection and capable of handling normal, chrome and metal tapes, belt driven single-capstan transport.Typical front loading cassette deck with the cassette compartiment located on the left side of the deck. Tape eject is operated mechanically and the cassette needs to be placed with the side to be played facing forward in the cassette well.Level meters used on the RS-M215 are generic digital peak reading meters. Soft-touch controls for fast and easy transport function selection of the RS-M215. Cue and review can be used to easily and quickly locate the beginning of a passage.The Dolby-B system reduces tape hiss on tapes recorded on the RS-M215 by as much as 10 dB at the highest frequencies.To make live recordings this deck has 2 microphone inputs to connect microphones with a jack connector. For undisturbed listening a jack connector for a pair of stereo headphones is supplied. Connection to other audio components for plaback can be achieved by a RCA cable and recording from a source by a RCA cable. This machine has recently serviced with new belts, and head allignment checks. Looks like this machine has had very little use and stored for much of its life.
