After selling 3 million turntables worldwide over 30 years, Technics did a limited run of just 3000 tables (500 limited to the Japanese market only) of this special and rare table. While taking ques from earlier SL-1200 models the GLD features special 24K gold plated components and a limited edition commemorative number plate. This table is clean and includes an original Technics dust cover and the Odyssey road case. There are a couple of small edge dings and the lower chassis has a square mark from being in the case. Cover is super clean and the gold components are excellent. These unique models were released in a limited batch of only 5000 units worldwide by Technics in 1996. The items up for auction, with serial numbers 007 and 008, were originally from the Technics Gallery in Ginza, Tokyo, making them highly collectible and a rare find for serious audiophiles and collectors due to their distinctive serial numbers. Though there have been several gold special editions of the SL-1200 released over the years, this SL-1200 LTD, launched in 1996, is the very first of these gold commemorative versions. This model was specifically planned to mark the 25th anniversary of the original SL-1200 model, which was introduced in 1972. To celebrate this milestone, only 5,000 units (some reports suggest as many as 10,000) were released. Given that these are brand new, unopened units with serial numbers 007 and 008, you can imagine the exceptional value that these two turntables hold.
