Parting with my beloved Technics SA-GX910 receiver is one of the absolute hardest decisions Ive had to make. ???? This Technics receiver has been a faithful companion since I picked it up on clearance from Sears in March 1993. With two factory original remotes (an extra one courtesy of Sears), this gem has been my pride and joy, and its time to find it a new home where it will be equally cherished. Continue reading to discover the heartfelt reasons why this receiver has been such a cherished keeper for so many years. Specifications:Power Output: 125 watts per channel into 8? From rocking the house during countless gatherings and parties to delivering perfect theater sound during quiet evenings, this receiver has been a centerpiece of my audio setup. Its been well-maintained and serviced by authorized technicians to ensure it remains in top-notch condition. I remember when I drooled over this model once Sears introduced it back in late 1991 and how I was amazed that a Technics receiver actually sounded this incredibly good, especially compared to many Pioneer, Kenwood, Marantz, Sherwood, & JVC branded receivers as well as the previous generation Technics receivers. Oh, the excitement of when it went on clearance, buying it with whatever money I had left in my checking account, rushing home, really struggling to haul the heavy beast up a couple flight of stairs on my own a step at a time to my apartment back then, and anxiously unboxing it, experiencing the thrill of setting it up, and the joy of experiencing its astounding sound quality with amazement. It was wonderful being the envy of many music lovers with this receiver back then. This was one of the last known powerhouse receivers that did not require a separate subwoofer to shake the walls, provided you had good high power handling front speakers. Why Its Special This Technics SA-GX910 is one of the last true Monster Powerhouse Receivers of its era. This gem is crafted with the finest components by Technics/Panasonic, delivering sound quality that rivals most Technics separate components. I know because I am an audiophile and I conducted many in store comparison tests back in Sears. I kind of now feel sorry for the salesperson I worked with. Lol Heres a taste of what makes this receiver extraordinary:Built-in MASH DAC with Optical Input: Perfect for your CD or DAT player, and compatible with certain modern sound cards (not all) with SPDIF out, up to 48kHz. Imagine the pristine audio quality this brings to your setup!Superior DSP/Surround Sound Processor: It outperforms even Onkyos legendary Motorola DSP from the 90s. Experience surround sound like never before with high output rear channels—something other receivers couldnt match back then.Vintage Rotary Tuning Knob: Smooth, weighted, and reminiscent of classic 70s analog receivers. Feel the nostalgia with every turn.True Metal Faceplate and Rugged Chassis: Unlike its 90s counterparts, this receiver boasts a solid metal faceplate and a thick steel chassis. Its built to last and feels substantial, with a weight that speaks to its quality. The only plastic items are the center display and buttons. The volume knob has a metal outer casting, and the tuning knob is solid aluminum. And theres more:Massive Power Transformer: This beast is heavy for a reason—its powerful transformer ensures robust, solid, and stable performance.4-Band Parametric Equalizer: Customize your sound with precision. Whether youre tweaking bass and treble or diving into detailed parametric adjustments, this receiver offers a lot of control for your sound. It even has 4 presets for you to save your hours of finely tuned EQ settings. This is perfect for saving your EQ night settings when you dont want to disturb others and its time to tone it down. Crank it up and youll quickly realize why you are definitely going to need more powerful front speakers—this receivers bass output is not for the faint of heart if thats your thing. Dont say I didnt warn you!! Made in Japan with meticulous attention to detail, the Technics SA-GX910 is more than just a receiver, its a testament to the golden age of audio equipment. Amplifier Excellence The SA-GX910 is equipped with one of the best New Class A amplifiers featuring the famed Synchro Bias, popular in many Technics amplifiers, from receivers to separate power amplifiers since 1983. This amplifier technology offers superior sound quality compared to the rather hollow sounding Class H+ amplifiers that were introduced shortly after, once Technics began cost-cutting. These changes ultimately led to the brands temporary demise before its resurgence in 2016 after many hard lessons learned. Compared to newer generation Technics receivers of the 90s and early 2000s before the brands demise, the sound quality of the SA-GX910 seriously outperformed them all, even outperformed the SA-TX50, SA-AX6/7, SA-TX1010, and SA-DA20 when seeking for an upgrade. Phono Preamp Quality This receiver also boasts a very decent sounding and well-built phono preamp that stands out from others of the same period. When turntables fell out of favor, many phono preamps were no longer built with quality components or care. The Technics SA-GX910 did not compromise on its phono preamp, ensuring excellent sound for vinyl enthusiasts. Condition and Extras The condition is very decent for its age, with barely noticeable blemishes on the front faceplate and some minor scratches on the sides from being in a stereo cabinet. There is a tiny, barely noticeable dent in the rear right top corner of the case cover. All in all, the condition is rated an A-, especially for wear and tear on a receiver this vintage. It still practically looks new and grabs attention with the mesmerizing parametric EQ display. Terms and Conditions Due to the nature of electronics, this receiver is being sold as-is, although I guarantee it will not be DOA. It will be packaged very cautiously and carefully to ensure safe delivery. Shipping Cost: Due to the heavy weight and careful packaging required, the shipping cost will be on the higher side. Packaging Details: The remotes will be carefully packaged, and I will pull off the volume and tuning knobs and wrap them in a bubble wrap package along with the remotes. Why, you might ask? Well both knobs have excess protrusion, and this extra step is to better protect the front faceplate and to prevent potential shipping damage to the faceplate and internal faceplate board if the shipper is careless. I had this happen to me with a Philips receiver I purchased years ago where it was banged on the front and the impact to the volume control broke the holder nut, causing the volume board inside the receiver to be severely damaged, rendering it DOA, so I understand how these things can go. You will just need to put the volume and tuning knobs back on the receiver after unpackaging it. No screws or torx tools required. Included Items: The sale includes both remotes and the power cord. While the Pinnacle PN2+ speakers that I used for surround sound, as seen in the pics, are not included in this sale, however, if youre interested send me a message, I will send you pics of the speakers, and make a good offer. As always, dont be shy to reach out to me with any questions about this receiver. Im the only original owner of this fantastic receiver so I will be glad to answer any questions. This receiver deserves a special place for you music lovers, and I hope it brings as much joy to you as it has to me.
