This deck is from the heyday of the cassette as a serious Hi-Fi medium. Manufacturers in the 1980s and 1990s put a huge effort into making the very best equipment possible. These days, it is impossible to buy a new cassette deck with a comparable specification - companies have stopped manufacturing high-quality mechanisms and Dolby no longer licences their noise reduction systems for cassette tapes. TEAC were amongst the most prestigious and well-regarded designers and manufacturers of audio equipment and remain in business today. This is an entry level machine (priced accordingly), but still has a comprehensive specification including Dolby B noise reduction and the ability to accommodate all major cassette formulations including Type I, II and IV tapes, with the correct bias and EQ configurations. This deck has been serviced, including replacing all belts with quality new parts. We do not use the cheap, bulk-supplied belts often sold on eBay, but purchase them individually from a specialist supplier, ensuring that they match the factory specification. It has been inspected for electrical safety and put through a full PAT test, in line with current guidance. A brand-new mains plug has been fitted, which meets both CE and UKCA safety standards and has the correct 3A fuse. All the switches have been cleaned, as have the internal electrical contacts. The electrical alignment has been checked, using a test cassette, signal generator, oscilloscope and external level meters. This process covers the recording levels, playback levels, bias and tape speed. The tape transport has also been checked and cleaned. It all works as it should and sounds great. Cosmetically, it is in nice shape for its age. The front panel looks great and has only minor signs of use. The LED display is bright and clear, the switches are all clean, fully functional and in excellent condition. There is a small scuff on the plastic of the fascia, just about the cassette door, but this minor and does not catch the eye in normal use. The case is also in good condition and free of the scratches and scuffs you often find on stackable Hi-Fi equipment. It will be very carefully packed, and we usually ship out same or next day.
