Tascam 122mkIII 3-Head Cassette Deck OPEN BOX - READ!! READ!! This item is a literal barn find, and was included in a large collection of higher-end audio, computer and other electronics. Many sealed and other like-new, open box items.  Some boxes were stained and had strong animal odor.  The box for this item was destroyed by what appeared (and smelled) like animal urine, which leaked in through the open seal on top of the box and landed on the manual, manual bag and other paperwork inside the box. The paper appears to have absorbed all the liquid and caused some paint discoloration and/or etching/rusting from sitting on the metal case venting on the top, back (see pics). It does not appear any liquid actually made it to the electronics, but can't be certain. It has been airing out for several days and still has some odor after it has been running for awhile.    Item appears as new with power cord still sealed from factory (I opened to test).  Item powers up and operated well during limited testing. FF/RW and Play tested, as well as pitch control and Dolby NR and all seemed to work well. Did not test other features (not sure how...).  Limited testing, but appears in working order and in excellent condition (except as note above). Tascam 122 MK 3 cassette tape recorder that’s being sold for parts or repair. Unit plays tape really fast. Fast forward and rewind works. When you insert a tape, you can hear it whining before you punch play. Great project for someone with expertise to repair. Meter lamps are out. Unit has numerous scratches from rack use. Up for auction is a Tascam 122 MKIII professional 3 head stereo cassette deck. The deck is fully serviced and the following repairs have been done: - Cleaned the heads and pinch roller.- Lubricated the capstan/motor shafts.- Replaced the idler tire and the broken mode gear.- Replaced the capacitors on the DD motor pcb board, adjusted the speed, W&F 0.025% to 0.030%. - Checked the playback/record heads for correct azimuth.- Replaced the VU meter light bulbs. - Adjusted the electronics for correct levels using TDK SA tape. All the functions are operating as they should be, playback, record, ff, rew, pause, counter, counter memory, record calibration, pitch control, headphones, dolby B/C, MPX. The performance is excellent (maybe one of the best sounding decks), the sound is warm, the bass is deep, the mid/highs crystal clear with wide stereo image in both modes (play/record). The deck is in very good condition, considering the age (see the pictures). This is a 120V model, S/N 2Z00015. All the questions are very welcome. I moved recently in US from Greece, where I was working in Greek Nakamichi service during 90s and I have all the professional equipment (original test tapes, oscilloscope, wow & flutter meter, distortion meter, frequency response meter, CR-7 test unit, 1000ZXL test unit).
