Testing The deck powers on, has a working display, and the buttons respond when pressed.However, when we tried to play a cassette, the motors appear to be stuck. It will make a slight grinding noise before stopping.This is the full extent of the testing performed. Due to its condition, the cassette deck is being sold as-is for parts or repair only. TASCAM 102 MK II Professional Stereo Cassette While swapping out the belt I accidentally tore the wire shown in pictures. Easily fixed by soldering but not able to fix on my own. Worked well when last used. Screws are missing but replaceable

The unit has the following issue.It has wow and flutter when playing tapes. There are a couple of tapes that it plays fine with. I don’t know how serious the issue is, as the tapes I am testing it with have not been played for over 10-20 years and probably longer. I believe the heads are fine as with one tape, I was able to record on it and it played back fine. When it was in use decades a go, sorry can’t pinpoint exactly as it has been a while, it was used only occasionally. I am no technical expert, so look at this sale, as a unit that requires a service or repair. It may have other problems that I do not know about. It could be a simple fix if you have the tools and resources. The only issue I can see is the wow and flutter. Transport controls work, lights work, dolby works, knobs adjustment works, play, pause and record mode works, audio out and audio input works. I have owned this cassette deck for a while and have not used it for decades and it has just been sitting with my Hi-fi system which I also have not been using. I have decided to sell this unit. This process covers the recording levels, playback levels, meter calibration, bias and tape speed. The tape transport has also been checked, demagnetised and cleaned. It all works as it should and sounds great. It has been inspected for electrical safety and put through a full PAT test, in line with current guidance. It will be supplied with a brand new mains plug that meets current safety standards. As you would expect for a piece of professional grade audio equipment, the sound quality is phenomenal, and the cassette mechanism is impressive – with quick fast forward and rewind times and a highly responsive tape transport. Cosmetically, this deck is in very nice condition. The display is clear and looks fantastic, the front and back panels are excellent, with only minor signs of use. The case is also in great shape - there are some light surface marks on the lid, as you often find with stackable hi-fi equipment, but these are unlikely to be visible once installed and overall there’s nothing that takes away from the overall fantastic looks of this machine.
