I acquired this from the original owner who is local to me (in New Zealand) who bought this brand new from the UK, and kept it in his possession until his death, living in New Zealand. This all is in original condition. There has been one repair made that has been professionally done and minimally done so that it is not noticeable (see photos). Very RARE Early 50 Single Tannoy 12 Silver Dual Concentric Speaker type LSU/HF/12L. S/N: 015930 A completely original example of the exceptionally rare Tannoy Silver 12. This Dual Concentric speaker is among the highest rated drive units of all time.I have carried out some basic tests. The speaker works and sounds excellent with great detail in the highs. Cosmetically the speaker is in great condition with the only issue on the frame, but this has no impact on the sound or structure of the speaker. Measured DCR of LF reads 13.9 Ohms.Measured DCR of HF reads 11.3 Ohms. The Tannoy Monitor Silver series was released in the early 1950s and produced until around 1958. Distinguishing physical features of this model are:a silver painted chassis in hammertone enamela lack of a dust-cover on the low-frequency cone Pepper-pot phase compensation channels that form the coupling from the HF diaphragm to the horn throat, which is machined into the magnet pole for the LF driver. The owner of that store used to directly import audio gear like Goodman’s, Leak, Garrard, Guad, etc., from England. I purchased the Tannoy speakers in 1960 at Cuban peso value. Let me note that in 1960, the Cuban peso had the same value as a British sterling pound. I am the second owner and have owned the speakers since 1960. I have had possession of the speakers first since Cuba and then in USA after I fled in 1995, and have kept them wrapped and protected to date. Returning to the matter, you need to know, these speakers are highly efficient but lack sufficient power support. They are not suitable for modern transistor amplifiers. I used these speakers with British amplifiers (Quad II, Leak Varislope). Mostly, single-ended 3 watts are more than enough power. The accordion paper/cloth surround is practically indestructible. What nobody talks about is how to maintain these speakers: They must be rotated a quarter turn, from the position they are screwed into the furniture in, every 1 or 2 years.
