This mono set provides delightful sonic bliss when reproducing orchestral or pop material. Ideal for playing great mono recordings, remastered 78s or 50s, 60s, 70s LPs & 45s. Many hard pan disasters of the early stereo days, cassettes, reel to reel tapes and CDs are actually far more enjoyable in mono.Altec 605 or Tannoy Monitor Gold were chosen by EMI, DECCA and many professional studios as their standard mastering speakers for one reason: Pure sound from a single point, much less coloured than that of most other speakers. Dual Use Cabinet: 12 drive unit front mounted on plywood sub baffle secured by four bolts spaced for 15. Mounting a 15 monitor gold or late 15 red/pink 8 ohm driver with plastic magnet cover is simple. The 12 remains attached to sub baffle. Undo four nuts, remove sub baffle. Bolt in a 15 unit. X-overs are identical for 8 Ohm 12 and 15 drivers. Port:(12 cabs such as this one have port cowlings. 15 cabs have port cut outs blanked off without cowlings.
