I am selling a hi-end, audiophile-grade phono preamplifier from the English manufactory SUGDEN AUDIO, a model from the Masterclass reference series (Sugden did not produce this type of device in the higher series, the PA-4 is the top of the line from this brand in the field of sound reproduction from an analogue source). Purchased from Sugden Audios official distributor in Poland - Szemis Audio Consultant. Like all SUGDENA units, the PA-4 operates in pure class A. The unit allows three cartridges to be operated simultaneously! Without having to rewire the plugs:- 1 type MM (moving magnet) load 57 Ohms- 2 of type MC (moving coil) load equal to or lower than 470 Ohms. This allows 3 turntables or one turntable with three arms to be connected to this phono. Switching of the individual sources is carried out using the right-hand switch marked MM, MC1 and MC2. Two blue LEDs are used to indicate MM or MC mode. Load adjustment for MC cartridges is via RCA plugs with a resistor soldered in for the appropriate load you want. The plugs shown in the pictures are 330 Ohms and 120 Ohms, the circuit without plugs is factory set to 470 Ohm. The plugs that are included are custom made at the SUGDEN factory with the unit. They are plugs from the Swiss brand NEUTRIK. NOTE: It is not possible to set the load above 470 Ohms - this requires circuit interference. The manufacturer allows for this possibility and can modify the unit to individual order, but this involves shipping the unit to England. The procedure is described on Sugdens website under the SERVICE tab. Output gain for MM is 40dB, for MC 67 dB It is free to change the load below 470 Ohms - simply change the resistors in the plugs - solder out the current ones and solder in new ones with the desired parameters. A very convenient and versatile device. In addition, there are two audio outputs, which allows you to support two amplification paths - e.g. tube and solid-state (you can simply plug in two amplifiers and thus two sets of speakers). The sound of the amplifier is so versatile that you can configure the system for two varieties of music - e.g. chamber music and vocals + rock and entertainment - there are many possibilities, monitors and floorstanding speakers or, for example, a mono cartridge and stereo. You can also use two amp in bi-amping mode. As for the sound, I wouldnt want to get into detailed descriptions here - it is always a subjective matter. Sugden is known for its individual and distinctive school of sound and approach to its reproduction and this phono fully realises it. The characteristics of this sound are outstanding musicality, balance, culture, elegance, refinement, respect for the characteristics of individual recordings and realisations. An additional feature of the PA-4 is neutrality and accuracy. The technical side is also impeccable - the phono shows cartridge sonic differences very well and is amazingly silent (so called black in the background) and has no susceptibility to microphoning in the slightest. I am selling this amplifier for my father who is not too familiar with the internet. He purchased it new from Arizona HiFi in Phoenix roughly eight years ago. He lives in a smoke-free home and the amp has been in his dedicated music room since purchase. I don't know much about hifi equipment but the amp appears to be in fantastic shape. I cannot find any cosmetic imperfections. The amp works perfectly but my dad replaced it with something else. Includes original box/padding, power cable and two 100R loading plugs.
