Sony SQA-100 Solid State SQ Decoder Amplifier 100 Discrete Input R-MTX Working. Used working condition Downloaded the instruction manual and will include a copy with this unit. Small unit with various inputs and outputs, mostly rca phono connectors including two rca outputs for 2 speakers directly from the unit. I had a pair of old Sony speakers with the correct connectors that originally were with a music Center from the same period. Unit can operate as a small stereo amp on its own or can be connected to another amp to play through 4 speakers in a quadrophonic way. According to the manual the second amp needs to have a tape/monitor switch for it to work. Have found a Rotel that meets the requirements. The other amp is connected to the Sony via its tape rec out/ playback connectors, this Rotel amp also happens to have a CD player connected to it. The Sony unit mean while is also connected to a standard cassette tape deck. With the Sony Monitor switch on Tape and the other amp also on Monitor Tape the tape deck input plays through all 4 speakers. Switching the monitor on the Sony to Source plays the cd input connected to the Rotel through all 4 speakers Master volume on Sony unit controls the volume on all 4 speakers equally If necessary you can still alter volume of the other amp independently of the other Sony unit. System knob on the bottom of unit is either in 2-4 or SQ function for sound through all 4 speakers (2ch plays sound only through the speakers connected to the other amp. R-MTX also plays sound through all 4 speakers with a slightly different tonal quality to SQ Sound is generally louder through source on Sony, rather than the Tape on the Sony Generally sound is very good, but sometimes there is crackling when the volume or bass trebles knobs are adjusted Occasionally there is some crackling from the Sony unit during playback, it is old and hasn’t been serviced and may be dirty inside. No other inputs on the Sony unit have been tested, the discrete inputs are another set of inputs that could be used with a reel to reel tape recorder, see manual or could be another tape deck. Unit could be possibly connected in different ways for different effects and purposes Some wear and tear to wood effect laminate on the top and sides of units inside a thin section of laminate on the front right side which is coming away significantly, see photos. This could easily be stuck down again. Chrome metal front as some marks and scratches, type is very good. Some dirt and scratches on knobs on front of unit. Rear metal surface has some marks and wear also. Voltage currently set to 220v (UK and Europe) can be adjusted to 110v see photos Only the Sony unit itself is for sale in this listing. No speakers or other hi fi unit are included in this sale. Includes Uk mains power lead Colour silver/ chrome and wood effect laminate Unit measures 13.5cm across the front x 23.5cm high x 16.5cm deep (approx 18.5cm deep if you knobs on the front and connectors on the rear) Used working condition, would benefit from a service, some damage to externals.
