These where my insurance policy on my TC 50! They both tested good when put in storage. Needless to say, I never needed them. I also have and will be selling a pair of Signature matched pair of woofers (drum roll please) & the crossovers (untouched) that go with them. Also a pair of grills with logos. Tasso Spanos , the late owner of Opus 1 in Pittsburgh, PA explained to me that only 5% of Spicas were signature matched. My goal is not to break the bank but to get these parts to someone who will actually appreciate them. A rare chance to buy a pair of these iconic ‘80s audiophile speakers. If you’re looking for speakers that’ll peel the paint off the walls, these aren’t for you—but if you want three-dimensional imaging and unmatched vocals, these Spicas are it. These are a matched pair, which means they have the same service codes and serial number—John Bau was serious about pair matching. Cosmetics are good. Functionally, they’re excellent. They have had one minor upgrade. The original Audax tweeters were replaced with new Audax tweeters From Enjoy the Music... These magical reproducers threw an immense and layered soundstage that was not only large in size, specially when one considers their relative diminutive size, but far wider and deeper than many money-no-object designs of the day. Imaging was rock solid and with a midrange reproduction that was (is) to die for. And all this, while maintaining an utmost sense of sheer musicality. Oh yeah, they retailed for *only* $550.00 buckaroos. Needless to say, I was hooked.This unassuming wondrous little speaker system was the brainchild of loudspeaker designer extraordinaire John Bau and it was the venerable Spica TC-50.To date, I have owned three of his designs; TC-50s, their replacement -- TC-60s, and as of late, the floor-standing flagship model Angelus or Angeli -- or how a lovingly dubbed them many years ago -- The Flying Nuns! (look at their picture and youll see why!) :-)In any event, (and to make a long story short), in the mid 90s Spica was bought by electronics giant Parasound and eventually *and so very regretfully* shut down as the marketplace leaned ever more towards the home theater experience and away from high quality two-channel audio.Regardless, in the years since Spicas demise music lovers around the world (as well as industry insiders) have wondered what ever became of the man behind the company that brought us such beloved music reproduction instruments - John Bau.

Up for auction is a pair of legendary Spica TC-50 stereo speakers from the 1980’s. Missing one badge and black vinyl starting to peel from both speaker boxes (see photos). I bought these to hear their fabled sound. Was going to restore them, but have too many projects and not enough storage!
