They would design and manufacture them with bleeding edge technology (like full 4K resolution and the fully Dynamic Iris on this one for maximum contrast) to create the best home projector money could buy... while keeping the cost moderate so that they were more accessible to Sony fans. The second reason is the lens. The quality of this lens even to this day is hard to match. If youre a serious photographer, you know how much great lens glass costs... and the night-and-day difference it makes. The end result is a projector that is the single most satisfying piece of video equipment I have ever owned. If you enjoy playing around, you can even up the performance with a pre-owned Lumagen Radiance Pro and youll be in heaven. (The Lumagen is super low cost these days on eBay, usually just a few hundred dollars.) The Lumagen has aspect ratio control, too, so you can employ its non-linear stretch function to fill your HDTV screen and avoid the black bars above and below the image that you sometimes get.
