This 901ES was in my shop and in came up in the cue. Since the heads were in great condition I considered modifying this deck to make it better than stock I have replaced the belts & rollers in both mechanisms with precision made kits from fixyouraudio. The bearings and capstans have been cleaned with front and rear bearing restoration and oiling to achieve uniform pitch. Each motor has been cleaned and has been sufficiently oiled to maintain balance and even pitch. All the grime and dirt was removed with my heat treatment method. The mechanisms run much quieter as a result in all operations. The Rear RCA connector has been replaced. I recapped both the Dolby and calibration boards of the deck and modified them with better capacitors such as Nichicon Fine Gold & Wima film caps in the Dolby Chips at 5% tolerance instead of the factory 20% tolerance. Total of 10 wima caps implemented instead of the traditional electrolytic. The deck bias and levels tapes up in auto cal much faster and accurately as a result. The playback and recording sections have been recapped with Nichicon Muse & Fine Gold. I upgraded the op amps in both wells with OPA2227P affixed to 8 pin gold plated socket for better sound performance. The main filter capacitor was upgraded to a Nichicon Gold Tune 10000 uF 25V snap in to lower the initial noise floor. The deck is in a high performance configuration now. Records on all tape types with ease. These exclusive mods were from my design to execute a proper signal. The deck has been carefully gone through and adjusted to IEC standard in full track Level 315 Hz 0 dB, fine level 1 kHz -10 dB, Phase comparator, Azimuth 16 kHz -20 dB. Speed evaluation check adjustment within spec. This will be guaranteed with a 1 year warranty. There are minor cosmetic scratches on the front panel and side panels. For the age it is typical, but the sound quality is now anything but typical. A hidden gem ????

Vintage Sony TC-WR901ES Double Cassette Deck New Belts READ DESC PSA: If you dont see a video in the listing try loading the listing in an incognito or private window or on your phone, ebay seems to struggle to show videos when logged in and on certain devices. Tested Working (but not perfectly): This unit came into my possession in not working condition, the right side would open but not play a tape, and the left side wouldnt play anything. I decided to go through the effort of opening the unit up and replacing all 4 belts that are inside the unit. Sure enough this got the unit up and running again and it seems to work great for the most part. The one issue I noticed is that when a tape is playing in the right deck the sound has a warbling too it, this doesnt seem to happen in the left deck and Im not sure if this is easily fixable (you can hear this when I put the tape in the right deck on the listings video). I think the issue was slightly fixed by hitting the auto cal button for the right side, but its still happening, maybe just slightly less. Everything else about the unit appears to be working great with all switches and buttons doing what they are supposed to. EDIT: Since originally posting Ive been informed by an eBay user of another minor issue with the left deck where hitting eject causes the unit to rewind briefly before opening (also visible in the video), I was told this is a common issue where the break doesnt engage properly usually caused by the mechanism being overly tightened, however it still seems to occur even after I tried to loosen things up (probably easily solvable by someone who knows more about these units). Physical Condition: The unit is in great physical condition overall, there are a few minor scratches here and there, but for the most part the unit is in great condition for the age. There is some minor damage to the front bottom of the right wood pannel, but nothing thats super noticeable.
