Sony TC – FX 170 stereo, cassette deck, high density, tape deck in good working order tested and works comes with cables will ship in the original box. It is in cosmetically excellent shape no scratches dings or dents.

This Sony TC-FX170 cassette deck is in great shape. I got it from my uncle who is a type-A person who takes good care of his stuff. I did the cleaning prescribed in the manual, that is, I cleaned the heads, pinch roller, and capstan with a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. I also cleaned the two tips that go into the tapes that make the tape spin with a q-tip and alcohol. Additionally, I replaced the three belts with new belts from West Coast Belts. Cosmetically, the deck looks great. As far as playback, playing, rewinding, fast forwarding, stopping, pausing all seem to work correctly, and it outputs via the 1/4 headphone check and L/R RCA output. The two buttons for noise reduction also work. For my tape of the Fiddler on the Roof from 1964, the right channel was much louder/dominant on playback, but this could be because its a mono tape. Im not sure. There is also a high pitched hum that comes from the deck (not out of the speakers) during playback intermittently to varying degrees. Depending on your age, you might not even hear it! I did not test the recording function. This listing comes with the two RCA cords that I believe are the original cords, the power cord, an extra replacement belt from West Coast Belts, the tape deck, and the original physical manual. Please let me know if you have any questions. ***UPDATE*** --- I tested with a different tape (Handels Young Messiah), and the audio came almost exclusively out of a single channel. This leads me to believe something is wrong with the cassette deck picking up and outputting left channel audio. Thus, I will be discounting the price of this unit.
