I found that pressing play again or skip fixes the freeze and then you can go back again without issue. I dont recommend this if you need a reliable unit, Id also only recommend this if you intend to fix it or not use the DVD side. Please message me if you have any questions.

Approximately 16 3/4 wide x 11 1/2 deep x 3 1/2 high Description from Crutchfield: DVD Features Video D/A Converter: This player uses a 54MHz/10-bit video digital-to-analog converter. This high-bit, high sampling D/A converter helps to reduce digital artifacts to give you a better picture. Audio D/A Converter: This unit has a 96kHz/24-bit audio digital-to-analog converter. Note: When the unit is playing a DVD recorded with a sampling rate of 96kHz, the signal is down-sampled and output through the Digital Out jacks as a 48kHz/16-bit signal. Progressive Scan Output: Progressive-scan video has less flicker and fewer motion artifacts than the traditional interlaced-scanning method, resulting in a superior picture. To take advantage of this feature, you must have a television with component video inputs that supports the progressive scanning mode. Quick Timer Recording: After you have started recording, you can have the VCR stop recording automatically after a specified amount of time. You can choose from the following times: 0:30, 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, 2:30, 3:00, 3:30, or 4:00. Timer Recording: You can program the VCRs timer to record up to 8 broadcasts, as far as a month in advance. You can also record programs on a weekly or daily basis. Auto Tape Speed: When you are recording a program in SP mode and the remaining tape becomes shorter than the remaining recording time, the tape speed is automatically changed to EP mode. Index Function: The VCR automatically marks the tape with an index signal at the point where each recording begins. Scan and Play: Using this function, the VCR searches for an index mark and then plays the tape for approximately 5 seconds. If you do not press the Play button, the VCR searches for the next index mark and repeats the process until the end of the tape. 0:00:00 Point: To mark a point on the tape that you want to find later, you can reset the tape counter to 0:00:00. The VCR will automatically fast-forward or rewind to the 0:00:00 point on the tape counter. Blank Search: Using this feature, the VCR automatically searches for the beginning of a blank portion. Auto Play: When the Auto Play function is turned on, playback starts automatically when you insert a tape with the safety tab removed. Auto Repeat: This feature allows you to play a tape repeatedly. Once a tape has finished playing, the VCR rewinds the tape to the beginning and restarts playback automatically. Remote Control Multibrand Remote: The remote is pre-programmed to fully operate this unit and the basic functions on other brands of TVs. The remote keys glow-in-the-dark for easy nighttime operation.
