The ML-1 is completely black anodized with white lacquer-filled engravings, it has a timeless appearance due to a slimline visual footprint and symmetrical control layout. When it was introduced in 1977 it was considered to be the best solid state pre-amp available on the market. Until then it was thought that this sound quality was only possible with tubes. The sound is clean and precise, but at the same time musical and smooth. It clearly outperformed all competing solid-state offerings at that time. The sound quality is rivaled today only by newer and more expensive gear. The phono section is still one of the smoothest regardless of cost. You will not be disappointed with this items performance. EDIT: I received a few questions regarding this pre: Blue Boards: I had completely forgotten about the blue board thing. I never took pics through the top vents and I dont show any notes in my records to confirm this is the blue board version. However, my original 750 had these and I was aware it was important when I replaced with this unit. So Im 95% certain it has them. Im not up to unwrapping/rewrapping; so, if this is critical to you, and you purchase and find its not blue boards, I will accept return. Jumpers: I do not have the original CD jumper pair. Completely forgot about this as well - I was using balanced XLR on the CD input. So if you want to use all 5 of the unbalanced RCA inputs simultaneously, youll need to purchase 2 jumpers. Sony TA-E77ESD Preamplifier Control Amplifier acquired from the estate of a home studio. Thoroughly tested all features and functions work as they should. All inputs feed their dedicated signal path and all outputs also pass a strong signal. Lights, indicators, switches, controls, features and functions work as designed. Cosmetic flaws are: side wood panels are missing (it didnt match the other components in a studio setting so they probably were removed.) There are some scratches on cabinet, edge of the bezel and some of the lettering is worn on the right side of the face plate (mostly near the cartridge selector knob, auction picture #8.) As previously stated, this unit has been thoroughly tested and all functions and features work as expected. This is a definite audiophile quality preamplifier.
