Man kann manchmal empfangen, wenn der Schalter etwas neben der Rastung eingestellt ist. Auf UKW funktioniert der Empfang. Für wen ist dieses Radio gedacht: Für Leute, die mit diesem Fehler leben können oder denen UKW ausreicht oder für Leute, die ein Gerät zum Ausschlachten suchen oder technisches know-how haben, um es wieder instandzusetzen. Wie bei allen Geräten des Typs ICF-5900W war eine Reparatur der Rastnase des Batteriefachdeckels erforderlich. Diese erfolgte fachmännisch.
