Sony flagship DVD player DVP-S7000 Japanese version. This is Sony’s first generation reference DVD player with dual discrete optical pickups (650nm for DVD and 780nm for CD/VCD), separate audio/video power supply, digital noise reduction circuitry, full feed forward digital filter, and pulse current D/A converter. Although it is more than 10 years old and only outputs 480i, it still outperforms most progressive scan players on the market today even its own sibling S7700. This particular one is from the very early production that comes with the switches to defeat the Macrovision and DVD region locks. Player is labeled region 2 but can playback DVD discs of NTSC format (not PAL or SECAM format) of any region code. The picture quality of this player is still considered one of the best even by todays standards. The color is faithfully natural with well-balanced skin tone. The picture is ultra clear with excellent detail. The rigid chassis and honeycomb transport damper effectively reduce vibrations to provide a stable and precise optical performance. Unlike its successor S7700, the S7000 does not suffer from the infamous chroma upsampling error, aka chroma bug. The chroma bug may not be readily noticeable for some people but once it is discovered or when viewed on a large screen it can be very annoying. Search dvd benchmark cue volume 8 player list to see a list of DVD players with and without the chroma bug. The S7000 has a superb audio circuitry that most audiophile would use it exclusively as a CD player or a stand alone transport. The audio board on this machine is independent and is logical for easy DIY upgrades. There is an extra set of RCA output as well as a digital coaxial and Toslink outputs. Please note that the S7000 supports CD-R and some DVD+R discs but does not playback DVD-R discs. This unit was purchased brand new in 1997 and has seen very little use. Its in pristine condition cosmetically and operationally. Comes with original desktop remote and a copy of the operating instructions (in Japanese language). One thing to note here is that the plastic jog/shuttle dial on the remote has become somewhat sticky due to age. It may be cleaned up with a proper cleaner but Ill just leave that to the new owner. While there are plenty of DVD players today with progressive scan and upconversion capability I have not seen one that can produce a better picture than this on my Sony XBR HDTV. This player is best for an SDTV or an HDTV that has a decent up-conversion engine. Unlike its successor S7700 or even the flagship S9000ES, the S7000 does not suffer from the infamous chroma upsampling error, aka chroma bug. The chroma bug may not be readily noticeable for some people but once it catches your eye or when viewed on a large screen it can be very annoying. The only cosmetic blemish is a small scuff mark on the upper right corner of the faceplate as shown in the closeup. Player has never been modified, tempered with, or required service/repair. For all of my CD/DVD players I use a canned air to remove dust from the disc before putting it in. This helps keep the lens and all sliding/moving parts in the transport clean. A remote from a S7700 and a Xerox copy of the operating instructions are included. Will pack and ship in a strong corrugated box with plenty of cushions and I guarantee no DOA. Flagship Sony model. Built like a tank with very high quality parts inside. This player will give most high end standalone CD players a run for their money as far as sound quality goes. Plays CD’s and DVD’s very well. The built in digital to analog converter sounds very nice but you can also use this as a high end transport with an outboard standalone DAC with excellent results. Original remote is included and works properly. This player has a separate laser lens for DVD and CD playback. Lenses were cleaned and all moving parts cleaned and lubricated recently. This player will not disappoint. Don’t miss this one! This was recently being used in one of my main systems and I’m really going to miss it but I can’t keep everything.

Sony DVP-S7000 DVD/CD Player Sony remote control Disc tray opens and closes, but does not stay closed, keeps opening up, when power off it stays closed. I disconnected one of the ribbon cables going to the disc tray mechanism so could operate the front hinged door and close it, if third ribbon cable is attached, hinge door would not close. Selling as not working, someone that knows electronics, could be an easy fix, or used for parts for another player.
