Vintage Reel to Reel Valve Tape Recorder TESLA SONET DUO Made in the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia) in about 1959. Max reel size 5”. This lovely rare little machine is 2 speed, 1 7/8 ips 3 ¾ ips using a dual speed motor. It comes from a private downsizing collection and needs electrical restoration. Its solidly made and is mostly metal and weighs about 10 kg. It’s small at only 35cm wide x 27cm deep x 19cm high. The mechanism is working but I only tried it for a short time using a variable transformer. As can be seen from the photos it will need full electrical restoration. The output sound was hummy and many of the capacitors are obviously damaged by age. However it has not been worked on before and everything is original and easy to get to. An interesting restoration job. The top deck is in nice condition with red Bakelite controls. Some of the external detailing is solid brass, much nicer than many machines of the time. The speaker frets are slightly damaged on the sides of the machine and there are some marks on the lid. See photos. There is a mains lead with plug in the cubby with a hinging lid. The tape and reels shown are for demo purposes and not included in the sale. Collection in person from Farnham in Surrey is welcome or I will package very carefully and send it if necessary for the price shown UK mainland only. There is no BIN price and I will let the auction run to the end. To be clear this machine will need restoration to bring it to proper performance. I will be listing other machines soon.
