Used Bias Adjuster for SME 3009 or 3012 Series I tonearm. This bias adjuster is NOT an original SME item. Its a high quality replica which I bought, if I remember correctly, from Australia about 10 years ago. The original Series I tonearm did not offer any means to adjust the tracking bias. To address the issue, SME made this bias adjuster kit which was sold separately (see Photo 5 for SMEs leaflet on this). By clipping the bias adjuster on the round retaining ring of the Series I tonearm (to be used in conjunction with the steel guide and the bias weight), bias can be adjusted. This function is important to making the tonearm track correctly. As said, this bias adjuster is NOT an original, but a high-quality replica which works as equally well as the original (Ive owned both). It is made of, I believe, stainless steel. Other than the bias adjuster, you will also get the stainless steel guide (see photos) which is an SME original. However, you will need to use your own bias weight. Depending on vintage, Series I bedplates vary in thickness, but all Series I bedplates are invariably much thicker and much more well made than later flimsy ones. This one on offer is 1/8 (about 35 mm) thick and weighs around 50g. As is the case with all Series I bedplates, the line MADE IN ENGLAND is engraved on the bottom. Lovely single piece counterweight SME 3012 tonearm. Nice, clean and shining condition. Just been serviced. The arm has had the rubber couplings changed which tie the rear stub of the armtube to the main armtube. These always perish so they have been changed. Original SME parts used. The dashpot (arm cueing mechanism) is in good working order and the wiring is original and in good condition. An original SME arm cable and a fingerlift for the headshell are included but only shown in the first photo. The arm tracks nicely and is a joy to operate.
