This is a SME 3009-R tonearm in the rare black finish. I serviced the tonearm about 2 months ago, I soldered the tonearm wires at the RCA connectors and lubricated the bearings as well. The knife-edge bearings were cleaned and inspected. The tonearm has an aftermarket rear weight. The weight is adjusted by loosening the set screw and sliding the weight. The thumbscrew does not adjust the weight as one might expect with this modification. Fine adjustment can be made with the side weight which is original. The headshell is original and has a few slight blemishes from use. The finger lift is aftermarket. The Ortofon Bronze 2M cartridge has a few hundred hours on it and it sounds excellent. The anti-skate weight is the version without a pulley. The overall condition is excellent with just a few signs of use. According to Jacques Riendeau (the owner of Oracle) this is a Delphi MkI that was factory upgraded to a MkIV with the MVSS system. The upgraded motor and controls are perfectly silent with fast spin-up and simple operation. The MVSS upgrade is an interesting and effective approach to dampen oscillations and resonance with a floating plinth layout. The 3 aluminum pillars house specially chosen springs (extra springs included to adjust for different tonearms) and rubber dampers. The pillars hold the aluminum plinth that supports the tonearm and platter bearing. Its a great design that isolates the turntable from physical bumps and feedback from the reproduced sound waves in the room. The drawback to this layout is feedback and ringing in the springs that impart an oscillation into the record and tonearm. Step in the MVSS upgrade. Next to the 3 cylinders youll see 3 smaller cylinders. These smaller cylinders hold a viscous fluid with a consistency of a sticky molasses. The bottom of the aluminum plinth holds special feet that dip into the fluid and couple both parts together almost like a 3 dimensional shock absorber. The tonearm is a SME 3009-R with an interesting rear weight that does not use the typical counterweight adjustment screw. It works perfectly and looks stunning. All this to say the performance of the turntable is incredible. Groove noise is the noise floor and the auditory experience is breathtaking. Additionally, the visual impact of this turntable is astonishing. It is a work of art. The smoked acrylic base against brushed aluminum and crystal clear dust cover really makes an impact. Of all the audio equipment Ive had, this is the most visually impressive. Logistics: Im selling the turntable without a cartridge, but I can provide one if requested.
