I am the original owner of this Technics SL5200 Turntable. It was purchased in 1978 and after a few years of use, it was packed away for a house move and never used again. After two house downsizing moves, it is now time to sell this Like New direct drive Quartz turntable. It is fantastic physical shape for being 46 years old. It is a direct drive (no belt), semi-automatic turntable and weighs 15.2 lbs. This also included is an ADC XLM Mk II phono cartridge already mounted on the ADC shell. (This phono cartridge alone can sell for $150 to $250.) The turntable is in cosmetically excellent condition. See photos. The silver color of the deck looks great. You can choose to switch the stylus illuminator light on while playing an album, in the photos I tried to show the light on and off. The dust cover lid is original and has no cracks or chips at all. I took pics of all (4) corners to show this. It does have very light scratches from dusting and cleaning the dust cover. I never placed anything on the dust cover lid including the album jacket covers. I tested the turntable by playing an album. Everything worked as I remembered. Technics SL 5200 sounded wonderful. It is in original condition. We tested this unit to the extent of powering it up and making sure the table turned and the lights came on. The cartridge is an Audio Technica AT88E. We are unsure of what stylus is attached. Light cosmetic wear is evident, but you can tell this turntable was well taken care of. The dust cover lid has very little in the way of scratches, just a few surface ones. The feet are all intact, with original felt still attached. The hinges still allow the lid to softly come down and stays up when lifted. We noticed that the spacer for 45s is missing. I looked for one of these for a while and this was the best (only) one I could find that actually worked and didn’t cost a mortgage payment. It is missing the original black 45 rpm adapter and rubber mat which is a shame but obviously not an issue getting another or using your own,it’s also missing the original head shell and has been fitted with an audio technica replacement this holds an ortofon 520 mk1 A previous owner has stuck tape to one of the lids for some reason but I’ve choose to leave it,please look at the pictures in detail I’m sure it’ll come of but I was ok with it.
