This is a very, very RARE Shure ML 140HE cartridge which compares according to Stereo Review very favorably to the Shure V-15 line. As stated above it has been continuity tested and both channels show similar continuity. It is a standard 1/2 mount. It needs a new stylus. There is a stylus that is specifically made for this fine cartridge by Shure on eBay as I write this (item #276228946084). I have nothing to do with that item. It is in a Pfanstiehl package and is brand NEW. When companies would sell their final stock Pfanstiehl would often buy it and repackage it, so the stylus offered in this sale has been manufactured by Shure and has the Shure name on it. Do a search. Youll find it. Or perhaps you have a stylus that will fit this already or have another source. Why should you seek out this cartridge? First of all it is very light weight and would do well on tone arms that would benefit from a lighter than usual cartridge. Secondly, this cartridge is very similar to the legendary Shure V-15 line. In Stereo Review January 1984 on pages 32-34 the Hirsh-Houck Laboratories do a test review on the ML140HE in their concluding comment they write, The Shure ML140HE embodies almost every feature of the top of the line V-15 Type V (with only slightly lower-rated trackability)....The proof of a cartridge is in the listening, and in our listening tests the ML140HE did a first-rate job with a variety of records. It was unfailingly smooth and clean sounding. It tracked warped records in a superior fashion when used in a low mass tone arm, and it was almost totally non-critical with respect to its loading by the amplifier and cable capacitance. Although we could not directly measure the ML140HEs frequency response above the audio range, it is plain from its square wave response that the low mass stylus system and the numerous design improvements in the fixed magnetic system give it the sort of extended high-frequency response once only associated only with moving-coil designs.
