I almost envy anybody getting into vinyl right now, because youve arrived at a really good moment: its finally easy to afford truly transparent and beautiful-sounding equipment (turntables, cartridges, and phono preamps) that will make the best possible case for the LP sound, and you dont have to pay a thousand dollars to do it. Here, from the great wizards of cheap-but-good, is the Schiit Mani, a fully flexible phono stage for you to connect your turntable to the rest of your stereo. I remember what this kind of money used to buy--a horrible thing from Radio Shack that had no switches to adjust it for optimal loading to your phono cartridge. Millions of those were sold, and no wonder we didnt know, back then, how great LPs really sounded. Of course, money could solve this, and there were even some receivers that had good enough phono sections included. (But they didnt sound like this thing.) OK, so in the back of your turntable, theres a cable coming out of the back of the tonearm. You just connect the RCA plugs from that into the back of the Mani, and also connect the little grounding wire that all turntables provide, to prevent hum, to the large black knob on the Mani. Now another RCA connection can be made to your receiver input, or to powered speakers. Youre done! The Mani has a few switches on the bottom that only audiophile equipment offers, allowing you to select some options for the best sound. The first are called Load; that means capacitance loading and refers to the fact that there are two different kinds of good quality phono cartridges out there. You probably have a moving magnet type; the less common (but better sounding!) type is called moving coil. The loading here is very basic; 47 ohms for moving coil, 47K ohms for moving magnet. The goal is to balance the loudness of the turntable to the loudness of the other devices you have hooked up--bluetooth, tuner, whatnot. The little manual explains these as well, its a ten second adjustment. Although theres an on-off switch, most people using this item just leave it powered on at all times. The sound is best when its warmed up anyway, and the amount of power it actually draws is vanishingly tiny. Do note that typically Schiit has built its tiny preamp with a 16 volt power rail, rather than the usual 5-8 volts, which allows it the headroom that results in the effortless, airy, transparent sound of a well-designed device operating far below the maximum power its components are rated for. I have had this for I think 4 years now, and have decided to move on to a much more expensive device from Pro-ject that uses 12AX7 tubes. To be honest the difference is small, and I know the Mani has the more smooth extended treble, but theres just something about tube sound that I like. Nice price that includes the Mani and the power supply; RCA cable not included although if you really dont have one, I could find one and include it for you. And by the way, yes, LPs really do sound that good. Youll be floored by them if youre getting an OK turntable. They just bring presence and warmth that streaming music cant touch. Purchased new on Oct.12th, 2023. Installed late November on a new Music Hall MMF 9.3, Which came with the Goldring Eroica LX. The sound is unacceptable regardless of the settings. I paid $157.53 will sell for $125. PLUS SHIPPING

SCHIIT MANI phono preamp, works with MM and MC cartridges This is an excellent little preamp from the U.S. company Schiit. It has very few hours of use on it as I only got it as a spare while I was transitioning into living in a new city and needed something convenient. It comes with the manual and the power supply. I dont believe I still have the original box, but I might - if so, I will update this listing. Whether if you are new to analog audio or an old hand at it, you can find YouTube reviews of this little preamp that show it holds its own against preamps priced a lot higher. Ive been holding on to it just in case but its time to declutter this house!!
