Vintage Sansui SD-7000 Reel to Reel Player. Untested! But powers on and heads spin. Heavy and robust Sansui’s first tape deck was a three-motor unit with four heads – erase, record and two playback. The heads were described by Sansui as being of a new design, “precision quality wide-band and contourless”. These heads permitted a higher input signal, especially in the lower frequency range, thus giving the SD-7000 a claimed frequency response of 15 – 25,000 Hz. Wow and flutter figures of less than 0.06% at 7½ ips and a S/N ratio of 60 dB were also quoted by the makers. The deck itself was a quarter-track stereo machine, relay/solenoid operated with automatic rewind, repeat and reverse playback (hence the two playback heads).
