Up till this day, the AU-111 remains one of the best tube amplifiers ever built, and is as such very rarely available. It was handcrafted during Japan’s iconic industrial period, and is in quality and price second to none of it’s US-manufactured counterparts. At the time of assembly, audio hifi tube technology was already more than thirty years proven and improved. The product line itself has furthermore been revised and improved over the years, hence, became a bestseller for decades, even. Music at the time was an expression of societies redefining themselves. And while the industry later turned to transistor technology, allowing for way more economic production of hi-fi devices, the AU-111 was created at the very height of this specifically audiophile period. 35 years later SANSUI in cooperation with it’s sub-suppliers of old reissued those flagships, that they owed their very reputation to. By doing so, Sansui wished to thank their customers for their often decades long loyalty with a very special edition of the Sanusui AU-111 from 1999, which is recognizable by it’s distinguished gold plated connectors. Why this AU-111? The resale value of a classic Sansui AU-111 net-find is determined first an formemost by the condition it is in, just like with a vintage automotive classic. Since audio tubes continue to be manufactured in 3 factories worldwide up till this day, one may safely argue, that tube amplifiers of this quality and standing may last to be operated by our grandchildren. The more original the condition that the device is in, the better. Therefore, resoration to the original specs is of the essence. Although circuit boards, exceptionally open transformers, such as carbon resistors are part of the magic formula that make the AU-111, the most crucial components remain the original oil-paper capacitors, as enthusiasts will know. All together, these carefully selected components provide the famously open and transparent sound, that the AU-111 are so world-renowned for. Above mentioned oil-paper capacitors have lately been reissured in Japan and were put to good use, in order to carefully set this very device back into it’s original factory specs during restoration. Also, this particular device has been used scarecely before, hence, shows very little wear and leaves the hardware in an overwhealmingly good overall condition.
