Bereits Ende der 1950er Jahre gegründet, produziert das Tokyoter Unternehmen Rotel bereits seit Jahrzehnten hochwertige Hifigeräte, besonders für den europäischen Markt. Der RP-855 kam Ende der 1980er auf den Markt und blieb später unter neuer Modellbezeichnung RP-955 bis weit in die 1990er als Top-Modell im Rotel Programm. Der Rotel ist ein rein manueller Plattenspieler mit elektronisch geregeltem Riemenantrieb durch einen entkoppelt montierten besonders laufruhigem DC-Motor. Schwere, verstärkte Zarge mit innenliegender Stahlplatte. Überdimensioniertes Tellerlager, 31 cm 1,5 kg Aluminium-Plattenteller mit gefrästem und polierten Laufrand. Hochdämpfende „Norsorex“ Plattentellermatte, folierte Zarge in Esche schwarz. Trittschallisolierung durch Dämpferfüße, Anschluss über geschirmtes OFC-Cinchkabel mit separatem Masseleiter. Gerader mittelschwerer Tonarm, steifes Vollmetallrohr mit Azimutjustage am Headshell und Gegengewicht mit niedrigem Schwerpunkt. Bedämpfter Tonarmlift und Antiskatingeinrichtung per Feder. Montiert ist das Audio Technica AT-110 Moving Magnet Tonabnehmer aus dem originalen Lieferumfang mit gut erhaltener sphärischer ATN-105 Nadel. Effektive Tonarmlänge 222 mm bei 16 mm Überhang, Abmessungen: 43,2 x 13,5 x 35,0 cm, Gewicht 7,7 kg. Der Plattenspieler ist technisch in gutem Zustand und funktioniert ohne Einschränkungen. Antrieb und Tonarm sind top, Gleichlauf einwandfrei & klanglich prima - muss sich hinter keinem Rega oder Thorens verstecken. Sauberes Gerät, optisch noch recht gut erhalten, aber mit alterstypischen Gebrauchsspuren und einigen Macken: die Folierung hat sich am Bedienpanel und links vom Tonarm gelöst und ist an diesen Stellen beschädigt. Es finden sich Kratzer am Plattenteller und die Lagerschrauben des Tonarms wurden beim Nachstellen etwas beschädigt. Die Haube weist leider stärkere Kratzer und Spuren auf, auf den Bildern schlecht zu erkennen. Kommt mit englischsprachigem Ausdruck der Anleitung. Fully working with original and highly rated Audio Technica AT110E Cartridge with recent replacement stylus. Heavy oversized platter and fine speed adjustment. The dust cover has some scratches and crazing. Have included the original stylus which still works but has a weak cantilever. Well designed and well built using quality materials throughout: All working parts have been checked, cleaned, oiled, greased and tested. The plinth has been expertly stripped & reinforced with solid oak, this widens and deepens the plinth. The interior has been treated with high quality dampening mat. A new solid wood baseboard has also been added. The plinth refurbishments add up to around 2KG in extra mass and definitely improve the audio presentation. The entire plinth has been veneered using real American Walnut. It has been sanded and treated with Danish oil - it looks stunning. The Tonearm is Jelco ST250 variant, very good quality & set up correctly with an Ortofon VMS cartridge and NOS FF15E stylus - a well regarded, sweet sounding cartridge, set up correctly using Baerwald geometry. Polished the outer platter rim to a nice shine. Replaced the old perished mat with a Cartridge Man Music Mat, its in decent condition, has a few minor dents (see pics). The mat works really well on the Thorens turntable. Made from a special polymer which has very low surface tension.
