Fantastic combination of modified, highly regarded rotel amplifiers and beautiful rosewood veneered Cura CA10 Speakers. Purchased 20 years ago and Biamped (not bridged) for 15 years until turning active 6 years ago. Cura was a British startup that made some well regarded mid priced (these were 900 in 1999) speakers. They went bankrupt after 3 years. Possibly due to the high cost of parts and exceptional cabinet quality. The CA10 were the gems in the range. The CA5s were light on base and the larger ca30s were not as cohesive. These were slightly warm but beautifully balanced. 34cm high x25cm deep x 22cm wide. The drivers are very well matched vifa (doped paper base) and seas cloth dome tweeter. Very neutral but not dry. The passive Crossover boards have been removed and drivers soldered directly to the connector with QED Quora silver anniversary (silver plated) Speaker cable and silver solder. Comes with all cabling including 2m pair of QED Quora silver anniversary Speaker cables. The Active Crossover is high quality 3 stage amplifier for each channel using specialist audio op-Amps, low noise resistors and poly film capacitors. Crossover is 2.8khz. The base and treble can be tweaked to get the optimum sound in your room and there is a volume control so this can be used as a pre-amp to control volume directly. Turning the system active tightened up the base and reduced compression at higher volumes. It was a major transformation. The Rotels have been modified on the left channel to provide the correct base shelf frequency to match the cabinet size so will not work with standard speakers. Hence selling as a system. I am an electronics graduate that specialized in HiFi Audio electrical and acoustic engineering (before everything went digital) so you can be confident it sounds really good.
