Offered for your consideration is a vintage Realistic model 2021 8 inch wide-range woofer removed from an MC-1201 speaker, manufactured c.1985. The same woofer was also used in the prior MC-1200. It may have also been used in other period offerings from Radio Shack, but buyer will need to make that determination based on their needs. So, please see my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this capable mid/bass driver should be yours. *Although the listing is written in singular to avoid any confusion, two (2) identical Realistic 2021 woofers are available at the time of this writing. This Realistic woofer is in clean, excellent condition. The sturdy paper cone is in great shape and the textile voice coil dustcap is flawless, as pictured. Plus, the surround is permanent pleated-style textile, factory reinforced with urethane, instead of the fragile foam that was widely used in that era. And, the anodized steel basket has no dings, scratches, or rust. Lastly, the +/- terminals measure the standard .205”, are marked for polarity, and have never been soldered on the spades. Overall, this woofer is exceptionally well-preserved. Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds great—clean, detailed midrange and solid bass response for the platform size. Plus, I tested its DC resistance at 7.7?, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket measures 8?” diameter, it stands about 2?” tall, and the mounting holes are spaced 5?” adjacent / 8” diagonal apart, c-t-c. These are the same 1016 drivers used in later Optimus and possibly other Radio Shack single driver speakers from the 1980’s and early 90’s, though manufacture had moved to Korea by then. The made in Japan version is the most sought-after. Most importantly, they’ve been fully tested and sound great—fast, detailed midrange, highs approaching the threshold of audibility, and good bass extension for the small platform size. And, I tested their DC resistance at a 6.9-7.2, right in line with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. They seem to work fine to me, but Im not taking them out of the Styrofoam and lets face it these are vintage radio transceivers no the I phone 27. The look super fun! Enjoy!
