Quad ESL988 Electrostatic Loudspeakers I bought these around 12 years ago from a dealer, the speakers were a custom colour and a special order for a customer who eventually decided to cancel the order. I ordered these while I was working overseas and had them delivered to my apartment in London. I’m familiar with the Quad sound as my father owned an earlier pair of Quad electrostatics and I love the detailed sound, but although they are perfect they are far too large for my small London flat and it just isn’t practical to keep them. I used them for a couple of weeks, around 20 hours of play only, and then packed them up and put them into storage and continued to use my Roksan Ojan 3s which are much smaller. The speakers are a custom order pale grey colour (on the metalwork), have silver grey stretch fabric frets and brushed finish silver anodised top plates. The speakers are essentially brand new and probably the only new pair available anywhere in the world in this condition. The speakers are in perfect / mint / as new cosmetic and functional condition. The original boxes, packaging, power cables, spike cone feet, instruction manuals, guarantee cards etc are all included. The speakers are very large and heavy so will need to be couriered. I am happy to assist with shipping at my end or arrange a courier delivery for an additional charge. Collection in person is fine from Battersea, London, UK. These speakers are UK voltage.

I feel quite a responsibility selling these, as they are quite frankly legendary. If youre seriously considering these, then you know what a reputation Quad Electrostatics have in general and the 989s in particular. If not, just type Quad 989 Review into your search engine of choice and youll see what I mean. They are among the worlds best speakers and retailed for over £7k in the early 2000s. About This Pair... These two were sold as a pair and are Serial Numbers 4832 and 4833. They were serviced by Quad in December 2021 and are in excellent condition both physically and electronically. All paperwork is included, though regrettably no packaging. Like an idiot I decided I didnt need to keep two massive boxes lying around, so got rid of them... doh! Theyre also large. In good news, they do fit in the boot of my estate, so Im happy to deliver / meet up throughout England for the cost of the diesel alone, just to ensure they arrive unscathed. The other option is a dedicated door-to-door service such as Anyvan within the UK, which would be somewhere around £450 for Scotland and scale down from there. Im sure we can work something out. Or, of course youre welcome to come and collect in Leigh on Sea or Basildon (where theyre currently in storage) Essex. Remodelling the house and the arrival of a new puppy mean that I just dont have the space to enjoy these any more, so its your turn. Theres no reserve and Ive set the start price ridiculously low, given my naive faith in the marketplace. They really are a superb pair of speakers in equally superb condition, deserving of a good home. Youre also welcome to come and give them a listen in Basildon. Bring your own source and amp, as theyre in my storage unit at the moment where the only thing to drive them with is the office stereo! Theyre complete with all cabling, the owners manual and receipts from when they were serviced in December 2021.
