A classic Quad 44 pre-amplifier which I was going to use in a second system but had a change of plan. The amplifier is in very good condition with some light wear to volume dial and tilt switches as pictured and some paint loss to the metal cover. These obviously have no effect on the operation of the amplifier. It is working really well and has a very good phono stage.I am also selling my quad 306 power amplifier which is a great match. Lower section of rear panel sub-assembly has corrosionon screws and internal struts and side of output panel.Initial faults: No sound on LHS and distorted sound on RHS.Action taken: Chassis & modular PSU dismantled & released from sleeve. Cleaned away carbon residuefrom PSU interior and fitted replacement long life 300Vac XY- rated, ceramic mains suppression capacitor.Removed corrosion from rear back plane assembly and fixings. Replaced corroded fixing screws. Signaloutput panel dismantled from back plane and corrosion cleaned away from outlet. Replaced corroded 4-pinDIN socket and fitted it to the outside of the panel for improved insertion depth. QUAD 44 Pre-amplifier. Made in UK. This is the later type in grey finish with RCA sockets. Highly regarded QUAD pre-amp with lots of features. The phono stage is excellent having low noise, and warm lively sounding. It was tested with an MC cartridge on 1mv setting and worked well and also with a step transformer which gave an improvement which you would expect. As a small unit it makes a great stand alone phono pre-amp at this price! For those needing tonal correction and possibly filtering the QUAD really excells. All input and outputs and functions have been tested and work as they should. The 3 different output levels make it suitable for almost any power amp including the very sensitive Leak power amps. The plastic door for the adjustments is missing but has no impact upon performance. There are some scratches on the top (did not come out well in the photo) and sides (see photos ), the front panel is very good with some marks on the volume control.
