I purchased this amp used a year ago and always wondered about the finish. I called PS Audio to ask why this amp had a brushed aluminum case rather than powder coated. I was told that the few Beta units had brushed aluminum before they decided to powder coat when they went on sale to the public. I was also told that the electronics were unchanged.. This amp sounds really nice. I upgraded to the PS Audio Stellar M700 mono blocks so this one is available to you. If you havent read the reviews on this amp, please do,. Its a great amp. There is some small cosmetic damage on the front lower left corner as shown on initial image. .

IMPORTANT - READ THIS FIRST Do not use the right side output and do not use the headphone amp before repairing the DAC/Preamp. Due to a problem with that channel, the volume control for the right side is not working correctly which can result in damage to your ears or your other components. But after the PS Audio Stellar GainCell Preamp/DAC is repaired, or if you just want to use the left channel... Then you will have a very nice DAC and Preamp combination. The unit is in near perfect cosmetic condition and has been part of my two channel system for just over three years. I would describe the sound as very detailed, natural and musical. The volume control is very transparent and does not distort the signal, which is great for listening either very quietly or when you want to crank up the volume. Unfortunately PS Audio has discontinued the GainCell DAC and is replacing it with the Stellar DAC and I assume at some point, a Stellar Preamplifier as separate components. The Stellar GainCell DAC was one of the best values in high end audio and soon it is probably going to be difficult to find these on the used market. On the bright side, the PS Audio customer service is based here in the USA, so getting older equipment serviced is no problem at all. The estimated repair cost from the manufacturer is $250, which makes this the most cost effective way to get one of these, with the added bonus of having the manufacturer inspect it before they send it back to your home. After a few weeks with the S300 in my reference system, I must admit I am smitten with it. I applaud PS Audios new approach to circuit design bringing together the benefits of both Class A and Class D technology. Tone Audio Magazine They sounded so good together I couldnt bring myself to try too many other speakers. The sound was rich with resolution to die for. Magnepan speakers arent known for their deep bass punch, but here with the two Stellars the .7 speakers low bass was kicking with The Legendary Skatalites in Dub reggae album with really low, feel-it-through-your-toes bass. Austin Wintorys orchestral score for The Banner Saga sounded downright huge, and the low bass drums definition was truly stellar! IMPORTANT - READ THIS FIRST Do not use the right side output and do not use the headphone amp before repairing the DAC/Preamp. Due to a problem with that channel, the volume control for the right side is not working correctly which can result in damage to your ears or your other components. But after the PS Audio Stellar GainCell Preamp/DAC is repaired, or if you just want to use the left channel... Then you will have a very nice DAC and Preamp combination. The unit is in near perfect cosmetic condition and has been part of my two channel system for just over three years. I would describe the sound as very detailed, natural and musical. The volume control is very transparent and does not distort the signal, which is great for listening either very quietly or when you want to crank up the volume. Unfortunately PS Audio has discontinued the GainCell DAC and is replacing it with the Stellar DAC and I assume at some point, a Stellar Preamplifier as separate components. The Stellar GainCell DAC was one of the best values in high end audio and soon it is probably going to be difficult to find these on the used market. I enjoyed this amp so much that I upgraded to PS Audios Stellar M700 mono blocks. I had a hard time deciding which amp to keep as the M700s were a bit cleaner but the S300 seemed to have more of a very pleasing holographic sound. I purchased this amp used a year ago and always wondered about the finish. I called PS Audio to ask why this amp had a brushed aluminum case rather than powder coated.
