Description
Im selling what was my reference, two channel audiophile sound system a few months ago. It consists of the audiophile grade Wiim 2.1 preamp-streamer-DAC (I still dont how Wiim can sell the Ultra for such a low price...), and a pair of giant slayer Leiliang A80 Class A, SET-300B tube monoblock amps. IMPORTANT: The DAC shown to the left of the Wiim Ultra in the first image is my mighty LAIV Harmony DAC. Unfortunately, it is NOT INCLUDED. However the Wiim includes the very capable ESS ES9038QM2 Sabre DAC. I really enjoyed this system and had no plans to sell it. However, I accidentally learned of a product Ive always wanted but didnt know existed: A tubed, audio-only surround sound preamp. Thus, Im currently using this tubed preamp with a pair of solid-state monoblock amps. Conceptually, the system Im offering for sale is very similar to what I own and enjoy now. Its simply a question of where the tubes are located in the system. The Wiim ultra is loaded with features, too many in fact to describe here. So please read or view some reviews of it to learn more. Unfortunately, eBay wont let me insert a product link the the Ultras website. As for the Weiliang A80 SET tube monoblocks, purchasing them was a risk as I had no prior knowledge of the manufacturer. I did some research and learned the A80 was originally only offered as amp kit in China. It sold well enough that Weiliang decided to offer a completed version. My research paid off, as the A80s sound like far more expensive SET amps. To get a good idea of the build and sound quality of the A80, read or view some reviews of the Decware Zen Triode stereo amp (note the price difference knowing youll need two Zen Triodes to run as monoblocks, not to mention the well over one year wait list). In short, the A80 does the magic tube thing in spades: Super transparent, 3d imaging, 3d sound staging, and a slight touch of warmth 300b tubes are known for. IMPORTANT: Each A80 monoblock is rated at 10 watts. This doesnt sound like much, but in fact its plenty of power if you use efficient speakers. Thus, I recommend using speakers with 90db/1m/1 watt sensitivity or above. Note: As the A80 is an assembled kit amp, no manual came with it. However, no manual is really required as the only two controls on the front of the amp is a gain control and power switch. In summary, is this system a good deal? In a word, YES! My asking price is less than what a pair of A80s alone sell for when you add the shipping cost from China plus:Free Shipping (within the contiguous 48 states only). Ill charge my true shipping cost to other locations.4-year extended warranty from Allstate: Theres a bit over three years left on the coverage.Upgraded preamp and rectifier tubes: Remember when I said the A80 was originally sold as a kit? Excluding the included very good Psvane 300b power tubes, the other tubes were not labeled with the make or model and had clearly been there and done that LOL. This being the case, Ive included some very nice Tung Sol preamp tubes (6SN7GTB), and quality Electro-Harmonix rectifier tubes (5U4GB).No physical music source required: If you have access to one or more web music streaming services, the Wiim Ultra can access and play back content via wifi, ethernet, or local music content on your phone or tablet (bluetooth). In essence, youre getting the Wiim Ultra for free! The entire system is about 7 months old, and would cost you roughly $1600 for the above add-ons.Ive been in the audiophile hobby for 35 years, and IMHO this system rivals others costing 3 to 4 times the price based on first-hand experience. Thus, this system will work well for existing audiophiles who want to downsize their current, more expensive system, or for new audiophiles who want to purchase a true high-end system without going broke (which is very easy to do in this hobby).
