They may have saved some cost on the faceplate but they didnt skimp on performance. With dual toroidal power supplies and over-engineered input and output devices its capable of driving most any load. Its also doubles output power with 4 Ohm speakers to 500 watts per channel. The HPA-2 has a warmer sound than a Krell but tends to sound more open than Bryston and other similar amplifiers in its class. It reminded us of the dynamic solid state could you get from PASS Labs amps with a slight warmer naturalness. This Amplifier is in very good cosmetic shape for its age with 1 scratch on the front (see last 2 pictures) and a a few small nicks.It is not currently operational. It turns on but when you push the power button, it shuts down. I believe it is due to the thermal protection. It may not need more than a fuse, but I am not sure. It is being sold as-is.This is a very heavy amp (94 lbs in the box) and will be expensive to ship. Its too heavy for me to keep moving around as I get older. Time for a class D amp for me, lol. What we have for sale is theProceed Power Amplifier AMP2 These are the first generation of the Proceed ampsthat were a joint venture of Mark Levinson Labs and Madrigal Sound. These were hooked up to a Classe SSP-600Preamplifier Control Unit. This unit is in good operating condition with noproblems or shorts. This just does not get used enough to justify keeping.Besides that I have gone to a single receiver forsurround sound duty: and I have too many stereo set ups for music so these just are not used much and they need a good home. I’m looking to finish (for now) my 2 channel set up, so to that end I am willing to trade for the right 2 channel amplifier. This offering of audiophile gear includes a Proceed Pre Preamp, (Sometimes referred to as the Baby Levinson preamp) this unit is a straight 2 channel set up and has NO processing for home theater which could potentially add noise to your system. a Proceed CDP HDCD Player, which shared the same transport and laser assembly as a few of the finest brands available from around the same production time as the Proceed, such as Krell, Levinson etc. and truly sounds amazing), a Sunfire load invariant Stereo Amplifier (300 X 2 @8 ohms, 600X 2 @4 Ohms and 1200 x 1 bridged @ 4 Ohms. It’s even 1 Ohm stable and will NEVER run hot! ). a pair of KEF Q550 speakers in excellent condition with very low play hours, Approx 30 or so and a Sunfire Mark IV True Subwoofer! This is truly a plug and play audiophile system!Proceed, a brand produced by Madrigal labs, makers of Mark Levinson gear is some of the best gear you can lay your hands on at the price point. Both the cd player and the preamp have been in for service, cleaned and realigned and work as they should. All led’s work and there are only minor surface scratches visible in some small areas of the equipment. The universal remote is included and operates both the cd player and pre amp with no issue. The Sunfire Amplifier is a beast,and has balanced inputs, heavy 5way binding posts, RCA inputs and provides plenty of power for almost anything you can throw at it, (see above) also the led on the Sunfire Amp Joule Meter has been replaced and works with no issues. The speakers are in excellent condition and have only very minor flaws, nothing that would affect performance of the drivers or even the aesthetic of the speakers. And for the low end the Sunfire Mark IV True sub rocks the house with 1750 watts of Punch! This type of equipment doesn’t come up for sale often, if ever the preamp is a bit of a unicorn and pretty rare in that it’s straight 2 channel with no processing and is sonically unbeatable with comparable models @ $3000 and under.
