If youre looking for a really good cartridge and dont want to spend a ton of money on it, you need look no further. The Ortofon 2M Bronze is a really good cartridge...and this one has seen about 100-ish hours of playtime (give or take 10 or 15 hours either way). Its also mounted on a Pro-Ject Signature Series carbon fiber headshell that costs between $150 & $185 depending where you buy it. This headshell not only looks cool, but it adds azimuth adjustment to your turntable if it didnt already have the feature. This helps a lot if you want to REALLY dial things in and get the best performance from your cartridge. I am a firm believer that a Fluance RT85 with the following upgrades/parts is the best bang for your buck phono setup out there:- Ortofon 2M Bronze- Pro-Ject CF headshell (or any decent headshell with azimuth adjustment)- MNPCTech iso feet and center weight (or comparable feet & center weight/clamp)- Pro-Ject Phono Box S2 (or comparable) I auditioned the Pro-Ject X2/Sumiko Moonstone, Clearaudio Emotion/Clearaudio Concept MM and Marantz TT15s1/Clearaudio Virtuoso Wood v1. None of these turntables out-performed my tricked out Fluance RT85 (shown in attached pics). I ended up with a Music Hall Stealth because I found a great deal on one that has a very nice linear power supply unit. The Stealth matches my rack & audio gear very well, so that sold me. I have now purchased an Ortofon Concorde Music Black for the Stealth, and Ive sold the RT85, so I have no use for this 2M Bronze/Pro-Ject headshell. Add it to your turntable and be real happy. Im sure the Pro-Ject Phono Box S2 isnt the only preamp that makes this cartridge sound good. In fact, Im quite sure there are MANY thatll make it sound better still. Very nice lightly used Pro-Ject Tube Box S2 with upgraded Telefunken reissue tubes. Great warm phono preamp for any decent vinyl setup. Ill also throw in a very nice set of SKW RCA 1-meter cables. Tube Box S2 is Pro-Jects very first product to feature a fully discreet circuit design without using any operational amplifiers (OpAmps). It also is the first product to come with replaceable tubes for tube rolling and sound-shaping. This provides the listener many options to pick from and gives them the ability to alter the sound signature to his/her preference. Tube Box S2 will give a full and relaxed laid back sound with lush mids, just like you would expect it from a much bigger high end tube phono pre-amplifier. It offers support for both MM and MC cartridges and comes with many gain settings that can be switched via the front panel. This turntable was damaged during transit. There is a crack across the tone arm just behind where the cartridge mounts and two of the corners are missing some clear coat (see photos with finger pointing to the defects). Motor speeds and playback function, however, there is an intermittent hum if the tone arm wires are moved. This would be a great project (no pun intended) for a DIY’er or someone who isn’t overly concerned with cosmetics and wants to pick up a (relatively) high end turntable for cheap.
