I have not used it for 3-4 years so it will need a good professional cleaning The drawer to the CD compartment is little sticky for lack of use but if one would press open & close button repeatedly, it will eventually open when you can load a CD and it will play it like a dream. As the operation of the platter is similar to turntable behaviour where the CD is placed with shiny side up, the laser will read it from above like a stylus of a turntable. The laser pointing downwards theres no possibility for the laser to ever suffer any marks or wear of any kind.
