Powers right up and has a beautiful soft blue color easy to read display. I played a large variety of DVDs, CDs.This Philips can be sensitive to scratchy discs. Though I dont see many people saying what they heard. I hooked this Philips up to a high end Yamaha receiver using Canton LE 2 way speakers and using a Samsung TV. The DVD videos I used were Horrible Bosses and DodgeBall and I was really taken aback at the picture quality this Philips was able to produce I assume because of the smart picture feature. On CDs the better recorded CDs the better the return. The 2 that really stood out was a Bucky Pizzarelli and Diane Schuur Master CDs. These were blow you away CDs that I listen to over and over again and keep hearing things I didnt hear previously.
