WELCOME TO AMP KING AUCTIONS Philips DFA-888 Integrated amplifier Excellent all rounder from the master of electronics..Philips! This little champ can pump out 85 watts into 8 ohms. I noted some high quality Toshiba output transistors. TDA1541A DAC on board. Arguably the best DAC chip in the world. Optical and coax inputs. Upto 48KHZ signal Decent phono stage and headphone section. The mainboard had all the preamp and opamp section diodes changed to schottky. All premium caps Nichicon Fine Gold, Nichicon KA, Nichicon Muse, polystyrene and wima. The caps were carefully selected for each section. The main smoothing caps are Chemicaon KMH series. Long time favourite, high ripple! All the low grade ceramics were replaced too. The DAC board is TDA1541A in NOS (no oversampling) mode. All high end caps. Premium grade film caps around DAC chip and all audiopath caps, mostly polystyrene! Got rid of 99% of ceramics! Im a bit of an expert on DACs so expect something mind blowing, especially the TDA DACs. In short the DAC on this amp is as good as TDA based CD players costing £500 and much more! So in theory all vintage Marantz, Philips, Quad mid 80s to 90s this amplifier will beat! I would know wouldnt I. The phono section blah blah high end caps etc same with headphone. I changed the speaker terminals to allow banana plug connection and they gold plated. Previous terminals were a joke in todays standard! The tone section was also upgraded. So every single section got high end caps. Audiopath got more special caps. 90% of diodes are schottky. Every single joint, yes every single one got resoldered! Let me see what else? Oh yes all the bulbs got replaced, IEC main filter fitted. Im sure theres more.....Bias adjusted..All contacts cleaned, relay cleaned..New thermal paste on smaller regulators... Ok I think thats it LOL Sound is very crisp, detailed and lively. Let the DAC warm up for 30 minutes and connect your supposed high end cd player in the amp via digital cable NOT analogue and enable the DAC on the amp and just be blown away with the TDA DAC sound quality. Connect your TV and the voice will be crisp as the TDA DAC excels in mid range sound quality. Very life like. So basically your getting an amazing amplifier on its own worth easy £3-400 in terms of sound quality and a DAC which is built in but seperate would cost easy £400+ This is a highly upgraded item and it guarantees satisfaction. Buy with confidence. Its a shame as the condition could have been better but thats beyond my control unfortunately.
