Description
Offered for your consideration is a pair of vintage Peerless 5 inch midrange drivers, quality-made c.1976. Peerless drivers were used from the 1960’s through 1980’s by many top speaker companies such as McIntosh, Rectilinear, and early Infinity in the States, amongst others, plus Carlsson, B&O, Visonik and other notable European makers. This pair of Peerless mids was original equipment in my Electro-Voice EVS-16B three-way speakers. They’re not stamped Denmark, so I believe they were made at the facility Peerless opened in Massachusetts in the 1970’s to meet the high demand for their drivers from US speaker companies. So, please see my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if these capable Peerless midrange drivers should be yours. This pair of Peerless midrange drivers is in clean, very good condition. They have structurally flawless paper cones and unharmed voice coil dustcaps. Plus, the cone-integral suspension was poly-treated at the factory for added strength and durability. Plus, the black-enameled steel baskets are in nice shape but do have the usual minor finish flaws, some cabinet sealing compound on the mounting flange undersides, and a touch of surface rust in places. Lastly, the +/- terminals are marked for polarity (red paint dot = +) and have never been soldered on the spades. Overall, these quality mid drivers are quite well-preserved. Most importantly, they’ve been fully tested and sound perfect with fast, detailed mid-frequency coverage and the coveted Alnico magnet warmth of tone. Plus, their DC resistance tested at 7.8 and 7.9?, respectively, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket flanges measure 5” in diameter, they stand 2?” tall, and the four mounting holes are spaced 3?” adjacent (skipping a hole) / 4¾” diagonal apart, c-t-c. These are a nice find if the Peerless 5” mids in your vintage E-V, FISHER, or one of the many other makes that used this driver style, are damaged or blown and will have your speakers sounding their best again in no time. And, as you probably know, they stopped making these midrange drivers decades ago so they’re fairly scarce nowadays. As pictured and described, this remarkable pair of Peerless 5” midrange drivers is offered at a competitive price.
