Good working condition, bearings are smooth, white paint missing from counterweight markings, otherwise good to very good cosmetic condition. Includes an Ortofon headshell with open front. The headshell has a broken screw in the cartridge mount plate. The wires have been extended and RCA mounts added. Includes a carbon fiber panel mount plate. Vintage Ortofon SMG-212 tonearm, made in Denmark by Ortofon in the 1960s. As you can see, the arm is visually in very good to excellent condition, although the base has some blemishes (see photos 8 and 9). The end cap at the rear is a high quality replacement as the original cap broke, as is often the case with these caps. The armrest, which comes from a B&O turntable, fits perfectly and it is incidentally, also Danish-made. :-)) The internal wiring of the tonearm is 100% original and has NOT been rewired. In my opinion, the original internal tonearm wires are most critical to delivering the classic, full-bodied sound of vintage Ortofon tonearms. Rewired Ortofon tonearms, to say the least, have a different sound. Functionally, this arm is in perfect working condition. It has been fully tested and everything works as it should. We begin with a 4-speed Thorens turntable, minty inside and out. It is mounted inside an SME rosewood plinth with a stellar dust cover. An Ortofon RMG-212 tonearm and moving coil stereo cartridge fitted with an LP stylus round things out. Any one of these items would fetch a pretty penny by itself, but its such a beautiful package, I hate to break things up. We still have the original box for the plinth, though its in poor condition and wouldnt ship well. If the package doesnt sell, we might consider parting it out.
