Amazing, amazing cartridge. Im the second owner. I dont know the hours, but I doubt there are very many. Since buying it in August, I put around 50 hours on it. The prior owner said he bought it new in 2015, played it for only a few hours and then packed it away. That makes sense to me because it looked new when I got it. Also, the stylus under my magnifier looks quite new. Anyway, if you like mono records from the 50s and 60s, this cart can be an absolute revelation. Its mono and the stylus has a .1 mil width so its intended for earlier mono records, like Jazz LPs from the 50s and 60s. However, groove width is unpredictable. In theory, I believe record companies went to narrower grooves with the advent of stereo, but in practice, many LPs were pressed with wider grooves through the 60s. Also, its an MC cart with an unusual output of 1.5mv, too low for MM inputs, high for most MC inputs. There are SUTs designed specifically for this mono cart with a DB boost of only about 12db. Attention mono geeks! Here is an amazing opportunity to buy one of THE classic mono cartridges, the Ortofon SPU Mono CG 25 Di MKII. Used but in EXCELLENT condition, played a maximum of 5-10 hours, no more than that. This is a moving coil cartridge and requires either a phono preamp that can handle moving coil cartridges, or a step up transformer (SUT) into a regular phono preamp. (I happen to be selling a Rothwell SUT; see my other items.). Cartridge uses a 1.0 mil conical stylus and reproduces records from the late 1940s through @ 1958 with incredible clarity and presence. (After 1959, most mono records were cut for a .7 mil conical stylus.) You can use this 1.0 mil stylus on any mono records, however, even contemporary reissues. Just don’t use it on a stereo record! Cartridge will be packed well and shipped for FREE via FedEx ground or UPS ground. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

For consideration is an Ortofon ST-M25 MC Mono Step Up Transformer (SUT). It comes complete with the original box, manual, certificate as pictured. I used it in my system for a short time, then went a different direction. I was very pleased at the difference it made with my mono records though when matched with the CG25DI. It gives a 12db boost, and is a 1:4 winding ratio SUT. Its a great match for the Ortofon CG25DI series when combined with a Moving Magnet 40db phono stage. Its also very nicely made and sturdy. These retail at over $700 US, and are hard to find used, so heres a chance to land one at a decent price.
