This one was a foreign import that has been gone through within the last year and a half to two years. When it was gone through the lights on the face were changed with I believe LEDs. Lights are Red on startup then quickly change to Blue once the system is ready. Since it was serviced and gone through, everything is in perfect working order. I did my best to photograph any marks, dings or damage. Overall, this is in amazing shape for its age. It does show very slights signs of wear on the corners and edges. Please excuse the reflections in the photos, the face plate has so few scratches that it is hard to take a good photo without reflections. The following basic functionality tests were performed (refer to the demo for specifics) 00:01 - Turning On / Playing Source via Speakers 1 and 2. 00:30 - Switching Meter Range to x0.1 to increase the meter sensitivity by 10. 00:42 - Adjust L and R channels via separate output level controls. 01:06 - Playing Speakers 1, 2 (only small speakers are available for testing). 01:37 - Showcase L and R channel power meters in dark. Features: The M-506RS is the result of extensive research not only in electronics, but also in the science of how sound is reproduced and perceived in a variety of sound fields. One outcome is that distortions resulting from time domain inaccuracies have been dramatically reduced. Large, independent left and right power supplies with large capacity chemical capacitors have been provided, and power supply impedance is extremely low. Super Servo on both the hot (signal) and ground sides reduces the variations in the power supply for large inputs to under 1/100th ( 40dB), creating a nearly ideal power supply. Also, the output stage uses high fT transistors in a 3-stage Darlington configuration. Distortion usually associated with class B amplifiers is virtually eliminated, and Onkyos unique Linear Switching radically reduces both switching and crossover distortions. In addition, an auto-tracking bias system is used to prevent instabilities in the bias current due to thermal variations. Advanced protection circuits and parts carefully selected not only for their specifications, but also for their sonic characteristics, further add to the state-of-the-art performance of the M-506RS.
