Description
This Zenith Trans-Oceanic B600 dates from around 1961. Chassis number: 8683030. The B600 was Zeniths final tube-powered Trans-Oceanic and the last American all-tube portable. I bought this one some time ago with the intention of restoring it to the original spec. But new priorities mean that I now dont have time to do this, so its time to sell. Its in excellent visual condition, with a strong carry case, good black stag leatherette, undamaged front panel, excellent scale graphics, instruction/log book, and smooth controls. The switches, push-buttons, knobs, cursor, antenna, power cord reel etc all work nicely. Moving parts have been cleaned, adjusted and lightly lubricated where necessary. The 51 inch (1.30m) telescopic antenna is straight and undamaged, the wave magnet antenna has its original red ladder connector and the original 90v battery connector is in place. The correct Zenith/Raytheon tubes are in their sockets, but havent been tested. Work done by a previous owner includes a new rectifier and some new capacitors and resistors, plus the addition of a solid-state power supply in the battery compartment, to power an uprated dial lamp (I left this mod in place, as its probably quite useful, but it would be simple enough to remove, for authenticity). BUT... the set is silent, so its sold for parts or not working. Some months ago when I had the chassis on the bench, I measured 104 volts dc on the HT line, which is about right for this circuit. But thats as far as I got with testing. The radio will be carefully packed and shipped promptly. Please note that the quoted UK postage is to mainland destinations - for other UK locations, please enquire. International shipping only via Ebay Global Shipping Programme. Thanks for your interest in this classic radio. I hope it finds a good home. Happy to answer questions. (Note: ac operating voltage is 120v)
