High end tuner from Nikko which is pretty uncommon. The Tuner Information Center had good things to say about it: The NT-850 has 4 gangs and 5 IF filters (although strangely, in our contributor Ryans sample, one of the filter slots was left empty). Ryan tells us that the NT-850s user interface is very good, with separate switches for IF Band, Hi-Blend, Multipath and Muting, a selector knob for mono or stereo, and a knob for output level. The most interesting of these is the multipath button, which allows the user to hear the multipath component of the signal being received. Ryan explains: I havent seen this feature anywhere else. Normally, one can gauge multipath by hooking the multipath output up to an input on the preamp. Unfortunately, this is rather cumbersome and takes an extra input on your preamp, and even then is only one channel. The NT-850 gives you a button that does pretty much the same thing. Ryan also reports that the NT-850 should be easy to mod because the removable bottom panel allows access to the bottom of the circuit board. I am listening to this the past few days with a pair of powered speakers. It sure is nice having the output level because it eliminates the need for a preamp if youre listen to mostly one source. I plugged it in the lights came on as you see in the pictures, that is as far as I tested it. I have no way of testing it further than that, so because it is a used item it will be sold as is where is with no guarantees. It may work perfect it may need some work I do not know. All buttons are functioning as they should except the unit is playing the tapes too fast on both decks.So rewind , forward , auto reverse etc etc all working but playing tape too fast.
